Giving Them Shelter

I wrote this post late last night, before another quake hit Haiti.
It seems even more necessary now.

I was visiting BOBBIE’S blog this morning and saw a reference to a post from PAZ about helping Haiti through an organization called SHELTER BOX. I clicked over and then, to be brutally honest, I glazed over from all the desperation and pain and need.

Just now I was reading a tune post at LINDA’S and for the first time ever decided to click over to the host of the tune project. What popped open? A wonderfully detailed post about Shelter Box. What it is. How it works. How it helps.

And how we can make it happen.

You can read the post at DURWARD DISCUSSION – on her sidebar there is a link to a group of her friends who have gotten together to donate a shelter box for Haiti.

Or you can visit SHELTER BOX directly.

OK universe – I got past my glazed over period.

There is power in the blogging community and I am grateful to be able to pass on information.

A friend of mine is collecting for a shelter box. Aren't they a wonderful idea? I hope we can raise enough.

I have kind of gone into my own world of late and not been blogging or visiting much. Hope all is well with you. Nice pieces on Haiti. Glad that your friend is safe. Shelter Box sounds like a great idea. Oddly, for Christmas I "gave" my sister's kids money to build a home in Haiti through Greater Good.com and I chose to do what little I could in this crisis through Habitat for Humanity. Haiti was in so much trouble already. Sometimes the Universe is too cruel.

Glad your team is winning. Hope is growing up so fast. I'm pretty depressed about the Mass. election. She put a smile on my face this morning.

Another wonderful way to help. Thank you, Dianne.

I have linked to and explained The Extraordinaires as an expense-free means to help on my blog.

Thank you so much, Dianne, for making me feel like I am NOT the only one who has gone over into the glazed-over look at this point. Try as I might, I can only handle so many pictures of destruction and woe as it just makes you feel so damned helpless about the whole situation and then along comes the frustration with WHY on earth it's taking so long to get people the much-needed help that they need. Why is it they can get every reporter with a camera crew in there to show us how bad things are but they can't get help in there so that they can then show us that people are trying very hard to help the people of Haiti out. I truly hate the media.

Whew ... got that off my chest!

Anyhow, Jamie is one of a kind and a gal with a heart of gold and wealth of knowledge. A true gem - I hope you continue to visit her after this as you can learn some wondrous things from her as well as hear some great music and drool over Hugh Jackman should you so choose!

Glad to be of assistance in some small way by pointing you in her direction!

I had seen NOT MUCH happening with all the donations in other areas and getting discouraged. And hearing of the aftershocks... too much!!

Thanks for posting a pic of someone somewhere landing a plane and getting supplies out!!

So glad for your picture of the actual arrival of Shelter Boxes! I may post it too, because when it's seen that there is real help, it inspires others.

It's just amazing how many worthy causes there are that should be supported. I think the best thing to do is pick one or two (or however many) and focus on them and keep supporting them in the future.

I have to thank Daryl for putting me into your company. I think you're the greatest, kiddo!

Thanks Dianne, I’ll check all of these sites and Shelter Box directly. I can’t believe that an aftershock hit so late! I always thought they occurred at least within a day or two.?.

Keep up all the good work, much love!!

Hi Dianne!

Truly amazing!

The blogging community is awesome! Often times we feel helpless and alone, but through sharing, we can stand united and find support. What amazed me was the story of a homeless woman who thanked blogging for getting her back on her feet!

When I was a newbie to the world of blogging, I was in awe of the compassion and passion of each blogger I have visited and have grown to love.

Truly amazing!

Wishing you and your family a wonderful weekend, Dianne! :))

I checked out the Shelter Box site. I have never heard of them, what a great idea. I felt relief to see those women in a Shelter Box. Lord, the basics food water and shelter, too much to ask? I don't think so.

You're right Dianne, there is power in the blogging community.
And I think we've all been through that glazed over period at some point(coping mechanism).

I love this post, thanks for introducing me to the Shelter Box.
