Good-Bye/Hello Summer - Part 1

This past Labor Day I wandered around my estate (mortgaged to death piece of earth) and found all these images of the end of summer. Late afternoon light during late summer is heartbreakingly lovely. It hangs there – as though wanting the summer fun to last a bit longer.

I love the change of seasons – each one has a perk. Summer to fall is my favorite. The air gets crisp, I stop sweating, the evenings become cool and quiet, Staples has back to school stuff – I always loved getting new school supplies, even now – I stock my office in September.

My intention was to post this slide show back when fall was upon us but I had no clue – upload/download, html/hotmail, blogging/schmogging – I was lost.

We’re having a snow storm today and, instead of snow pictures, I thought I’d remind us all of what’s to come.

The snow will melt – spring will twinkle – I’ll struggle to plant stuff – Siren (and Mia I hope) will love the open windows and before we know it Summer will be back.

It’s all like the blink of an eye during a slideshow.

On this cold snowy day, thanks for the reminder that Spring and Summer are on the way... eventually.

Yeah - cold, snowy weather here - very snowy as a matter of fact. Sometime this afternoon or evening it's all supposed to get topped off -like icing on the cake -with freezing rain and ice. Yucky and yet, at the same time, strangely lovely unless you have to try to maneuver a vehicle around in it then it's just plain yucky and scary too!
Like you, I too love the changeover from summer to fall I think the best of any aspects of the four seasons. The "less sweat" is a big bonus then!

I can spend hours in staples CG! and spend tons of money too - I feel so efficient and organized when I'm there

Sunny warm days are on their way Raven - promise!

jeni - I just went out to throw some trash and it's getting pretty icy. I hate that! it melted all afternoon and now it's black ice on the drive. and we all know how graceful I am LOL

Ah - the eternal optimist. Well, maybe you're right. Spring will come.
Meantime, watch out for that black ice!

P.S. I didn't tag Cliff. I tagged Villas Girl. She tagged Cliff. - Don't you love the picture he uses?

And thanks for going to Kitty's blog so often.

Oh I'm watchin'! My back can't take any added drama.

I get so confused about where I found someone's blog. I bookmark them and then go back later and I'm not always sure what the hell I'm talking about!

I love the guitar picture.

I think Kitty is an amazing writer - so real, genuine. and her photos are wonderful. I'm still pissed at that sheriff! ;)

I was just in Staples, needing a calculator-walking out with quite a bit more. If I work in an office, look out.

I am getting ready to reseed and plant here in AZ before it gets too summery. Summer to fall feels bittersweet, but it is lovely, as you say.

all my favorite things Leighann!
Halloween is my favorite holiday - no gifts, just candy, only for kids, no family drama.

thanks tt - my son agonizes over closing the pool.

kenju - look down, it's right there ;)

I'm not a snow girl either dollface - pretty to look at, then go away. your designs are lovely - and being on the front page of etsy is huge.

snoopmurph, smalltown rn - it has been such an odd winter here - 30 degree temp shifts - lowest snowfall in decades - and I keep seeing these hints of spring and then it snows and it's 20 degrees out, poor Mother Nature is so confused - but that's NJ for ya - we'll mess up your mind!

I like that slideshow down there. And, I can't wait for summer. I'm sick and tired of darkness, cold, snow, ice, rain (well, the rain basically is the same during summer).

Oh I love the exact lighting you described...I always think of it as parchment. And I love the way the air feels as Fall approaches, like everything is speeding up and rustling.

Your photos of the sunglasses & watercan on the table made me sigh...I'm ready for warm days. I have such an addiction to office supplies; pens and anything-paper make me insanely happy. You own a labelmaker, right?

Dianne said...

"Parchment" is a beautiful and perfect word for it Jo.

and yes! I own a labelmaker!! I have an old credenza, belonged to my Mom, that didn't fit in any of the rooms so I made it my supply closet in the basement office. It is full of supplies - every drawer, nook and cranny full of wonderful stuff.

I agree, the changing of the seasons is always a wonderful time adn I know exactly what you mena about the quality of light at the time. It's almost hazy and yet at the same time it's warm and clear like liquid.

Thanks for your supportive comments over at my blog :)

You're welcome bob-kat - your blog is such a great place to visit. :)

I love all these descriptions of the late summer light - hazy yet warm and clear like liquid is a beautiful way to describe it.
