Ruby Tuesday - A Lovely Church

This is the church in a nearby town that my DIL attends. I've been there during their annual festival in June and during an open house. I hope you think it is as beautiful as I do.

If you'd like to know more about the church their website is here - KIMISIS TIS THEOTOKOU

Please visit WORK OF THE POET to see more great photographs with a little/a lot of RED

Thanks to CARLETTA for inspiring this week's post. I shared a sepia shot of the church last week and she asked to see it in color. Check out Carletta's blog. There is always something interesting going on and her photographs are beautiful.

Enjoy Your Ruby Tuesday!

What a stunning church. And you did such a great job capturing it.

There's more color in one square inch there than there is in our entire sanctuary.

Color me jealous! Cool church!

Jay said...

Wow! If I attended that church I would spend my whole time looking at that stuff and never hear the sermon.

I'm easily distracted though.

What a bright and beautiful house of worship ... great photos, Dianne ... hope you're feeling better!

queen size funny bone - thanks!! glad you think so :)

sunshine - it is definitely colorful. the great thing is it all works so beautifully together. It could have been too much but they did it perfectly. thanks for stopping by :)

jay - and I didn't post the view out the amazing windows. They opted for clear windows in wonderful arched shapes and they look out at trees and birds and ...
I'd be easily distracted too :)

daryl - thanks Lady! the natural light pouring in does a bit of magic. I'm hangin/hobbling in there, thanks for asking. Friday is Dr. time - hope this damn cast comes off!

OH sorry... I went back to looking at the pictures, now where was I?

I love old fashioned churches...probably because I grew up going to one. The new square box churches with industrial siding just aren't the same although I know they are far less expensive to build.
Hey, I know you don't want to hear this. but don't take that cast off too soon. I did that once and things didn't heal as good as they could have had I left it on.

Beautiful. I had the same wish Carletta expressed. I'm so glad you shared these shots.

Delightful, the colors of this church interior!

Wow that church is so beautiful. I'd find it very inspiring.

It is beautiful! You don't see many churches like that in U.S. There's much more of them in Europe though. I love the smell when you first walk in... like if the history breaths on you :o)

Hi, Dianne,
Orthodox churches are pure art.
So colorful with all the bright, shining gold added. The icons also mean a lot more to the orthodox church members than just decoration.
Wish you could share the mighty songs of adoration too.

It's gorgeous! I've never been inside an Eastern Orthodox church, but I did read a book by the wife of a priest. I'd love to experience their worship. It sounds amazing.

I do, I really do! How very interesting!

What a beautiful church!

Stunning is the word I thought of initially, but the first commenter here already used it. So I'll go with "exquisite" with apologies to anyone who ma have beaten me to that one.

What an amazing place...

I'm just echoing the sentiments of the others, but it is so beautiful!

And I love the mixture of the wood and the bright white ceiling. Makes the colors pop so much more.

Hi Dianne,
It's even more colorful and beautiful than I imagined! I thought the same as Jay - I'd be looking everywhere.
Thanks for showing it!!!
(You didn't need to mention me but thank you.) (((hugs)))

I like the contrast of the white floors and walls against all the other details. It really reflects the light and makes it feel clean and warm.

bond - LOL - remind me to always be the driver on a road trip with you and Jay - which sounds like a cool thing to do doesn't it!!

shelly - this building has been there for a spell - I think it was a farm/home originally. even the parking lot is dirt, they do try to tend the natural surroundings :)
I know about the cast - Dr says same thing - thanks

raven - thanks!! the wood seemed so perfect for sepia but it truly is spectacular in color.

leora - thank you :)

cg - it is inspiring, thanks. the natural light is amazing and it is so peaceful there, even with all the color.

your eg - thank you!

ivanhoe - you would love Brooklyn, NY!! the boro of churches. and so many of them old.

felisol - there is some amazing art work - paintings of saints - in the vestibule. I must go back and get some photos to share.
I think the website has some audio files :)

Mrs C - the link didn't work for me either. I think it may have been too long. I fixed it and tested it, it works now :)

akelamalu - it does!! and the grounds are wonderful too. thanks!!

sparkling - I had never been either until my son's wedding. I have to post some shots of this church's sister church in Brooklyn - where my son's wedding took place. My DIL has gone there since she was a child. The priest who baptized her also performed the wedding and he cried when talking about all the years that have passed.

RLL - awwwww - I'm glad you do!
and that comment is perfect practice for the wonderful day you have coming up - did you guys set a date?

tammy - thank you. I'm very proud of these photos. I've offered them - thru my DIL - to the church's webmaster :)

mojo - I don't mind more than one stunning!! :)
thank you

cherie - I've been echoing myself!! I keep mentioning the natural light. the way the placed very simple, arched windows was brilliant :)

Dianne said...

carletta - I was glad to mention you! Your blog is wonderful and so are you :)
plus you inspired the post.

knight - the white walls are perfect. they really did design the church with art in mind. My DIL knows the man responsible for most of the decor. She's going to tell him to visit the blog for some love and appreciation :)

junie - thank you!! I am pleased with these shots :)

I don't spend a lot of time in churches, but that one is very pretty...

This church is beautiful. The RED is always appropriate, from the lit red candles, The red worn by the saints depicted behind the altar. I'd have to look it up, but maybe red is the color of the passion. All in all, a beautiful place to worship!

What a lovely church, and your vibrant photos show it off so beautifully.

Anonymous said...

How lovely - it really is very vibrant isn't it?! I like it a lot.

I love to see the kind of modern paintings, very bright (or as jackie says : vibrant, that's probaby a better word) and interesting.

holly said...

this is absolutely beautiful. not beautiful enough to get me to go to church, but beautiful nonetheless.

Linda said...

When I saw the first picture I guessed Greek Orthodox. I love visiting their churches. It's a worship experience in itself. Coming from a tradition that didn't want any adornment inside the sanctuary it's a real experience for me to visit churches like this one. Beautiful.

Dianne said...

rambling - neither do I - usually thunder starts and the skies grow black ;)

ralph - let me know what you find! that is an interesting idea. glad you like the photos :)

lorri - thank you very much :)

jackie - it is the most amazing combo of vibrant yet serene.

hildergarde - thanks :) I could spend all day there taking photos.

holly - I go for artistic reasons ;)

linda - I'm so pleased that you enjoyed these photos. thank you!

What an adorable church! We have a couple of old Spanish temples that are decorated like that. Hoop and I love to go there and light candles.

This has to be the most colorful church ever.

I'm not big into churches and what they stand for... but I do find an intense beauty in the architecture and placement of objects in churches. My tree photo was found online, I need to get my butt outside while the leaves change and take some pics! Thanks for the word of encouragement. I am slowly coming to terms with change and how everything happens for a reason.

Dianne said...

matt-man - what can I say!! Sarah Palin has inspired me to get back in touch with the spiritual side of me - oh wait ... uh ... I have to get back to ya.

tt - there is a lot of pretty to look at :)
thanks sweetie, love ya!
wish I was being packed into your luggage for Chicago

tink - I'm into lighting candles too! there is something about the flame and the rows and rows of other people's thoughts. It feels powerful. I need to take some candle photos

jess - it is colorful :)
thanks

Dianne said...

katie - well slow is good. life is a marathon :)
I'm not into organzied religion of any kind but I do find that places where people gather, when left to themselves!!, for any form of spiritual solace hold an energy that I find powerful and comforting. Plus, as you said, there is the architecture and the art. I've always felt faith and spirituality are best left to the individual. When groups form agendas form. More harm has been done in the name of religion than in any other one thing - other than Geroge Bush of course ;)

Dear Dianne...Thank you so much for your kind words at my blog!
Now I was going to write this morning but I got all taken up with your new little kitty, Mia and started to read your "My Space" blog.
You know that I really admire the name that you gave to her. After all her name means "Mine". I guess that you will be keeping her, and Siren will get used to her too and will not have a nose that is out of joint!

I had a time finding your Ruby Tuesday just now because your name on your comment sent me to your "My Space", so I went to the Teach and got your name off her Ruby Tuesday BIG list of names. I had to do the same thing last week with Barb's.
I will just have to put you on my favourite links and then I will get you easier.

I do think that this is a beautiful looking church, especially with the sun rays filtering through and landing on the floor.
I bet wedding pictures would be really pretty taken here because usually, with a shiny floor you will get the reflection of the bride and groom and that is so beautiful!!
I like the stained glass windows with all those Bible stories...how nice! Even a child would be able to read them!
A picture says a thousand words, eh?

Well I will catch you later Dianne.
I was glad to see you at Felisol's.
She has become my dearest friend in the last year! She is praying for my dear Dad and calls him her prayer child even though he will be 82 in November!........love Terry

PS I like the way that your comment window is small so that I can see your post while I am writing a comment..

Dianne said...

teach - thanks!! RT went over 100 again this week. Pretty cool eh? :)

lisa - your new photo blog is great!! :)

farmers wife - 60 is a lucky number :)

terry - I loved the photos of your Mom and your Aunt :)
felisol has a great blog and she's a lovely person. I haven't been to Myspace in weeks!! I wonder how you got there lol
BUT I am thrilled that you found me here. And I do hope you come back often. I'm putting together a new Mia slideshow, she has all kinds of new things to tell everyone.

Ron said...

So glad I caught this post, because it's such a brilliant color contrast to last weeks sepia shots.

WOW...Dianne...the colors are magnificent!!!

And the altar is breathtaking. I love all those candle-looking things that dangle from the chains in front of each image.

Have you ever been to St. Patricks in NYC? I use to live not far from there, and every so often I would go in and just sit for like an hour and just be blown away with it's beauty! The Pieta would always make we weep.

I love churchs!

Thanks for sharing these photos, Dianne.

Enjoyed them!

Dianne said...

Hey Ron! You're up late too :)
I'm watching Letterman and trying not to eat an entire cake.
I've been to St. Patricks many times, it is as beautiful as you say. I also love The Cathedral of St John the Divine. Oh and the Cloisters!! Lord I miss working in Manhattan. I know it's only 40 miles away but in NJ traffic time that's 2 hours :)
So glad you liked the photos. Good Night Sweetie :)

What an amazing church. So much great detail.

Aesthetically I think this very beautiful and if I were Christian, I would become Orthodox on the strength of it.

the walking man said...

I'd look longer but I think the church pictures would implode.

Dianne said...

faye - it is a lovely place. each time I've gone there I found something new.

aileni - I have learned from my DIL that Greek churches are very much about community. They have breakfast together after the service. Unlike the RC churches I attended as a child they don't have 10 services a day, they have one that pretty much goes on all Sunday morning and then there are activities the rest of the day. Still not enough to convince me on organized religion but everyone I have ever met there has been wonderful to me. They enjoy sharing their culture and explaining and telling stories.

mark - LOL!!! I always say I can hear the thunder as I enter a church ;)

Diane Mandy said...

How colorful! Makes all these 1000-year old churches here in Europe seem positively dull!

Dianne said...

diane - old European churches dull!! I doubt that :)
I have only traveled to the UK and although there was less color lol - I thought the architecture and art and walls just speaking of history were amazing. Nothing here is more than a couple of hundred years old LOL
I told someone the other day that my house was built in the 60s and she gasped! gasped!! as though I live in a turret.
