An E-Mail from President Elect Obama

Dianne --

I'm about to head to Grant Park to talk to everyone gathered there, but I wanted to write to you first.

We just made history. And I don't want you to forget how we did it.

You made history every single day during this campaign -- every day you knocked on doors, made a donation, or talked to your family, friends, and neighbors about why you believe it's time for change.

I want to thank all of you who gave your time, talent, and passion to this campaign. We have a lot of work to do to get our country back on track, and I'll be in touch soon about what comes next.

But I want to be very clear about one thing...

All of this happened because of you.

Thank you,

This is true, Dianne. You and people like you have put him into office. Thank you!

This is not the end, but merely the beginning. Good Luck to PRESIDENT Obama. Cheers, and a big ol' smooch Di!!

Dianne said...

bobbie - thank you! that means a lot to me. I haven't been this involved in politics in years. I am so very proud of us all.

matty - and a big ol' smooch right back at ya!
The best is yet to come.

I'm overcome in a way I didn't realize was going to happen. I am inspired.

He did it. We did it. He knew we could do it. Yes we can.

I am elated for you Dianne and all those who believed that Obama was the answer. I am happy too for all Americans that the chance to let hope soar is here. I am full of hope that this immense positive spirit and this great man will be a new beginning for both America and the world.

I am exhausted after this long day, so good night and I'll join you for further celebrations tomorrow.

Dianne said...

travis - 'he knew we could do it' - I think you have touched on part of his power - he truly believes in the best of people.
I knew this would hit me - I just keep crying and smiling.

rob - thank you so much for sharing this night with me, with us. Your words have meant a lot to us.

I'm so happy, but also VERY tired. Crawling off to bed now.....but first...

THANK YOU, DIANNE for inviting everyone here to share in this historical time. You rock!
Hug, M

His speech was awesome. My friend in Greece got up in time to hear it and called me crying. This is a good and a great man. I think American has done well for herself.

Anndi said...

As your neighbor I can't tell you how awesome it is to witness a country I've spent all of my childhood summer vacation trips in, the land of the man who won my heart achieving such a milestone.

Congratulations Dianne, to you and your son.

Dianne...My first hope for this new dawn is that the people will share in the things that unite us and not amplify those traits we mark as differences.

And Secondly I hope that them, on both sides of the equation realize that the work does not end with an election but rather this day is only the first day. Everything that came before was simply walking up to the door and opening it.

Now is when the hands get dirty and the sweat of our new labor can, if we but work, bring about the changes that may in fact save our nation from the dust bin of history.

I have a book to write right now so at the very least...them who labored so hard on the telephones can now quit calling me and re-direct their efforts. I'll be back soon.

Good Job kiddo.

Dianne said...

crystalchick - I enjoyed sharing every moment with all of you!

raven - very gracious and inspiring. I like something Katie Couric said - she said that the English language was going to have its day back LOL
that the days of mocking intelligence and garbling our words would be coming to an end
I liked Katie tonight

anndi - so many of my Canadian friends have e-mailed! thank you for being so invested in what happens here

mark - I think many of us will be up to the task now that there is someone at the head of the line who knows where we're going ;)
go write, be brilliant

Both my husband and I watched Obama's speech with tears in our eyes.
What a proud moment for Americans and what a wonderful moment for both you and your son.
Congratulations to the U.S.A.
You all have truly shown the world that "Yes, we can."
Bear((( )))

Dianne said...

bear - thank you! it is so comforting to know how many people around the world care about American people - and now we have a President who will return that care with respect and regard.
Better days ahead

Sleep well, my friend!

They were mentioning the e-mail that President Elect Obama sent out before delivering his acceptance speech. I'm so glad that you got it.

And his speech said exactly the right thing in exactly the right way. It will be one of those moments that will live forever in the history of this nation as will this entire day.

And yes, the adventure is just beginning, but I think it's good to take a little time to savor the moment. You can't walk through the door until you reach it.

(And I've got to give props to Senator McCain for the concession speech he made. What a class act.)

Well, congratulations USA! Record voters too I hear! Well done!

As an outsider looking, as a South African who watched Nelson Mandela become president in 1994, this is am amazing moment. Well done American for voting for hope and for change. The rest of the world is grateful to you.

Connie said...

Very cool! Congrats Obama!

Bob-kat said...

I'm watching him meet his people as I type! Wonderful result! I have my fingers crossed for the future and I'm hopeful this will be good, not just for the US, but for the rest of the world.

Well done Diane, you must be so happy :) Hope your foot is healing well!

I woke up this morning to the tail end of the acceptance speech. I keep tearing up, I'm going to be wrecked all day even after sleeping. Congratulations to you all, and God bless America (actually I think he just did ;) ).

Thanks for keeping everyone posted on the moment to moment, state by state status.

We are entering a new era. Our children are living this significant history.

May the Lord bless us and guide us in our way; and, maybe we now be unified and no longer divided by red and blue.

CG said...

What a great message. I am thrilled to see Obama as President!! If I could have voted I'd have voted for him!

*sigh* Yes we can!

Maybe now there will be some peace - D

Good job Dianne - it is hard to contain my excitement today.

And thanks for telling me about CrstalChick - I won the earrings!!!!!

Dianne said...

ron - THANK YOU PHILADELPHIA - AND THOSE SURROUNDING SUBURBS - they voted overwhelmingly for Barack when many said they wouldn't.
Hugs Ron!

cherie - from the moment I signed up Obama has always kept us up to date, we got e-mails every step of the trip - how wonderful to finally feel there is a leader who SEES ME.
I too thought Senator McCain's speech was gracious. It was the McCain I admired many years ago. I will say though that his crowd was ugly a few times - and you could see he was uncomfortable with that/them. In sharp contrast to the applause and cheers McCain got when Obama mentioned him.
Unity is a 2 way street and I fear some of these people will be hateful to the bitter end.

reb - we set records!! yes we did.
thanks :)

charlotte - and I'm grateful to all those, all over the world, who believed that the American people were better than the leader who has represented us so poorly all these years.

connie - I've been saying cool a lot ;)

bob-kat - I am hopeful for a better future and I'm so glad to have a leader I can trust and work with/for. thank you!!
the foot is a mess this morning, too much standing in line and pacing last night LOL
I'll be OK -

jackie - I think he did too! what a great thing to say :)
I am exhausted and must push myself to get some work done. I just want to savor a moment I sometimes feared would never come.

farmers wife - thank you for stopping by and being part of it all!!
I too hope for unity and grace. I thought Senator McCain's speech was one of his finest moments - the man I admired years ago.

cg - don't underestimate how your support, the support from all over the world, helped. As I said above - the world believed the American people are better than the man who has misled us all these years.

riverpoet - peace and grace. I hope.

tt - we can always get it right with the right leadership, the right message. Squeezes my love - it is a good day.

What a way to end the day, huh? Last night was just so fantastic, words are hard to come by that express exactly how I feel -euphoric though is one.
Big congrats to you for having received the e-mail from Obama and to you, a huge thank you from me too, for all your work in "aiding and abetting" to help get this all to come to pass!
Yes, we can, we did and now -he and we, will do whatever is needed to move forward.

Dianne said...

jeni - when he took Ohio my son walked in and I just stared at him with tears in my eyes and pointed to the TV.

He laughed and said Obama truly is a miracle worker - he had rendered me speechless!!

Hugs Jeni and thank you for being part of all the posts yesterday!!

Lisa said...

Wasn't that a great email? That he sent that off first, before he made his speech, was very touching to me.

"Obama truly is a miracle worker - he had rendered me speechless!!"

I'm still a bit speechless myself today. . .

Dianne said...

lisa - touched me too!! I have often said the Bushies made me feel invisible and now Barack recognizes my contribution.

Dianne said...

mary - and none of what I did felt like an effort, it all felt so worthwhile and it was !!

quiet rage - yes we do! his first press conference made me so happy, he speaks English - the official English, not folksy asshole English.

rose - thank you! :)

mimi - I'm going to make a scrapbook of this e-mail and the photos from election day and a newspaper headline - something wonderful to show my grandkids one day :)

Dianne...this post gave me the goosebumps all over again. Tuesday night when he gave his speech I also cried tears of joy. He truly believes in his country and his visions give me such hope for America.

Thank You for everything you have done over the months, you are also a true inspiration in all that you did.
