Reading is Sexy

The beautiful and bodacious ANNDI tagged me. I almost never do memes but Anndi is too cool to say No to, plus I get this great badge.

Rules: Pass it on to five other bloggers, and tell them to open the nearest book to page 46. Write out the fifth sentence on that page, and also the next two to five sentences. The closest book, not the coolest, or the one you think will sound the best. THE CLOSEST!!!

Then she leaned over the side and vomited and the wind from the Atlantic blew it all over us and the other happy people admiring the view. Passengers cursed and ran, seagulls came from all over the harbor and Mam hung limp and pale on the ship’s rail.

From ‘Angela’s Ashes’ by Frank McCourt. His wonderful memoir of growing up in Ireland and coming to America. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize.

I read it years ago but it was sitting on the floor right next to my desk so that I can pack it to send to a friend.

I don’t tag people. I just don’t.
But if anyone wants to play along and take the sexy reader badge please do.

I posted a really pretty (if I do say so myself) shadow shot over at THE PHOTO BLOG– check it, and all the other shadow shots, out if you have a minute.

Have you read the rest of his books too? I really enjoyed all of his works that I've read thus far but especially "Angela's Ashes."

I did this one a while back. What a quote. That is such a great book! I was disappointed in the next one, but he's a good writer. And one of his brothers plays an angel once or twice a year on All My Children. One year they did a thing where they had Frank McCourt do a book signing and his brother was there too. It was very cleverly done. Don't now why I'm sharing that. Funny how our minds work.

LOL Um... the other blogs I usually visit have the corseted women reading with tiny children 'round the Bible and some sorta Divine Light shining through a window nearby. You're a little different... though vomiting over the side of the deck of a ship is generally considered *not* sexy round these here parts LOL.

Well, at least I don't think so. I'm a little behind on these things. :p

Hey, I've been clicking around here. Are you blogging on Dec. 1 on AIDS day? I heard on Christian radio the other day that there are something like ***143 MILLION*** orphans in the world? I'm not sure how many due to AIDS but it's totally decimated the continent of Africa and it's incredible what these CHILDREN have to go through.

Hugs.

jeni - I read his second book - the one that covered his time working on the docks and then as a teacher. the title escapes me, it was wonderful.
I also read 'Tis' by his brother Malachy. Quite the character :)

bob-kat - it is a great way to learn of more/new books :)
don't forget to take the badge!!

raven - it was the only thing on Page 46!! LOL
but that was fine since it really does illustrate how wonderfully he draws a picture and how ironic so many of his life's moments were.
I just mentioned Malachy above - I like Frank's writing better but Malachy really makes me giggle.
I will be by on and off to read all the Wordzzles.

mrs C - corsets can be sexy
the paragraph wasn't sexy lol but it did fit the book beautifully as I mentioned to raven above
I am blogging tomorrow for AIDS day. I hope to have some decent research and links BUT if not I will at least link to my dear friend Maithri who knows far better than I and does so much more than I could ever imagine to do.
Hugs to you as well

I will be coming back later to swipe the sexy reader badge - can't resist! And it's a fun meme. I won't be tagging either. Awards are another matter - I love passing those on.

Love,
Gina

I love this idea, and I would love to do it. I just have one problem. I have about 15 books that are equidistant from me. How do I choose? lol Then, I picked one up, one incidentally that I've never read, and there's a painting illustrated on that page! LOL Okay, I could limit it to works of fiction, and then the closest one is my book. :) Why do I have to make everything so complicated? LOL

And who says that I have to follow "the rules" at all. I could pick whatever I like. Who would know the difference? :)

pagan - cool!! you are a sexy reader! ;)

cherie - and so are you! actually you're a sexy Santa reader. and I love your complications ;)

Pretty neat! But what would you do if, like me, your latest book was on a CD? (Maya Angelou - A Letter to My Daughter)

Sleepypete said...

Done mine :-) Door Into Summer by Heinlein. It was sticking out a little from the rest of the pile by virtue of being bigger than the rest :-)

Dianne said...

bobbie - you could go 46 seconds, or minutes, into the CD ;)
I worship Maya!

pete - another guy who piles up the books - one more sexy thing about ya ;)

Oh I LOVE that book. Frank McCourt is amazingly lyrical.
