Search the Good Search ... Shop the Good Shop ...

It's really been bothering me that money is so tight that I can't afford to support my favorite causes so I keep looking for new ways to make things count.

Thanks to my local news I found - GOODSEARCH.COM

Every time you do a search - just like Googling or Yahoo'ing - one cent goes to the charity of your choice. I picked NY PET-I-CARE

You can choose your favorite or look at the goodsearch.com sidebar for suggestions.

Shout out to the effervescent and ever so cool photography Goddess that is DARYL for turning me on to NY Pet-I-Care.

Through goodsearch.com you can also access GOODSHOP.COM

It's so simple. Just click on any of the vendors listed and shop as you normally would. A portion of your total will be donated to your charity.

It costs you nothing.

In fact many of the vendors offer special deals and coupons. And the list of shopping opportunities is pretty cool. Amazon.com and Target and my favorite - Barnes & Noble - are on the list, along with many others.

It's cold and icy out this morning and I can't help but think about the strays out there just looking for a chance to live. If not for a rescue group Mia would be out there - or worse.

So click away folks and please tell your friends.

Mia appreciates it ...

... and so do I.

An animal shelter is such a good cause! Note, though, that you do NOT want to adopt a strange 80-pound boxer into your family with small children. You just don't. We learned that once. You know those horror movies where the blood spurts out everywhere like a hose and you go, no way that's real, how fake... well, it isn't. That's what happened to our cat's TAIL.

I love my cat. But I'm glad it wasn't our children, who were standing not three feet away. The dog went after that and thankfully the cat is fine. She's about 15 1/2 now.

:]

This is really cool. Every little bit does help, and this sounds like a painless way to do a little good.

Thanks for the link Dianne. Will do.

fran - thanks!! I appreciate you checking it out

mrs c - I'm sorry about the boxer experience. I know someone who had a similar experience with a Shepherd. She went to grab her daughter's arm and the dog jumped on her - the shelter neglected to mention that the dog was accustomed to being a guard dog!!!

bobbie - that's what I thought :)

spartacus - thank you :)

matt-man - there aren't enough hours in the day for all you do Matty

We have a similar scheme over here. I think it's called EVERYCLICK.

Dianne said...

CG - that's good to know - pass it around, all those little animals who bark and meow with accents need help too :)

I'll see if I have some spare time to check it out from work today. If not, Mark will be back home with his laptop tomorrow :o)

What a great idea. I hadn't heard about this before. Hmmm... now I have to go spend some time picking a charity and hopefully not dwelling on all the googling I've done that went to waste!

Have a blessed Christmas season. It certainly doesn't take a ton of money to do so does it?

Oh wow. I'll use this search engine at work instead of google.

I'll definitely check this site out. I do try to give somewhere besides family because I know there are so many places where money is needed desperately for so many things that I am blessed NOT TO HAVE -- illness, poverty, starvation. It doesn't take much to help and it means so much! Obviously that was my reason for posting the nothing but nets site to protect children from mosquitos. I may not have much money but I am safe, warm, healthy, have wonderful dogs and I'll have my two wonderful sons with me for Christmas! With all that how could I not give?
Thank you for all the beautiful things that you do and I wish you a beautiful and merry Christmas! Also hope you're feeling better!

meili_lo - what a beautiful name!
I visited your blog and I love the premise!! I left a long response to today's question. it was fun, I'll be back to see what others say. thanks for finding me.

daryl - thanks, ain't no big thing ;)
I love Marilyn's photo on the site - she's so clearly loving the dog she's cuddling as is Dr. C - I went thru the Pets for Adoption and of course found many who I know I would love
and there was a dog named Mia!!!!
Oh No!! I really need to win the Lottery so I can my 'farm for misfit creatures' started. all the strays - no matter how many legs - come there. and I am of course Mother Nature but looking like Angelina Jolie lol

Thanks for posting this. I'll definitely check it out and add one of the rescue organizations I used to work with. I was thinking the same thing this morning about all the homeless critters. My heart breaks for them.

I took Nellie in yesterday and they tended to her tail. They shaved most of it, cleaned it out and prescribed antibiotics. And she has to wear a cone! Will definitely be posting pictures ASAP, she looks very pathetic with a shaved tail and cone. The vet said it definitely looked like a nasty bite from one of the other kitties. I suspect the baby who has turned into the devil's spawn. They did some blood work too and found no sign of diabetes, just a nasty infection. I'm glad I brought her in and got her on meds.

Hugs to your former strays from mine. ;)

Does Goodsearch work as well as Google? I'll look into it. I always wonder if these places really DO make those donations... sometimes I pick the craziest things to get skeptical about! LOL! I'll check it out!

Dianne said...

cherie - cool :)

reb - thanks for checking it out :)

magnetbabe - I'm so glad Nellie will be OK - cat bite infections are brutal - I'll look for more news and photos, kiss her on the cone for me

errant - thanks :)

jay - please do and pass it around to your minions and groupies ;)

melli - you make me laugh!!
I've been using it for a few days, I wanted to use it before I suggested it - I also did some shopping thru goodshop and got a $25 coupon for Target!!
most of my searchs were as good as Google - some of the more specific ones were even better and a few yielded too many marketing hits - so overall I think it's fine

Shelly said...

Wow, very cool! I'm a searchin' fool ;)
Thanks for the tip.

That's a great idea! I'm happy that I can still do one of my favorite things, which is donate toys to the Toys for Tots program. My new company has been collecting for two weeks now.

We went shopping last night and I dropped the stuff off today. I got games for older kids, because older kids sometimes get left out.

You embody the spirit that this season is meant to represent... love in action...

The Chorale I work for is fundraising with goodsearch as well. So many good causes and such an easy way to contribute.

I love the photo of Mia...she looks very cozy.

shelly - search away!! I love to research things so I do a lot of searchs as well

travis - that's a great thing to do, thanks from someone who was an older kid who usually got socks and gloves while the others got toys - it means a lot, trust me
I've done the Santa Claus project a few times too - go to the main PO in Manhattan, pick letters to Santa and send gifts - the amazing thing is that most of the children ask for coats or books or even food!! or they just want stuff for their family
one girl just wanted school supplies!! I ended up talking to her we became friends - she was 16 then - now she's out of college and a teacher and we still e-mail all the time. She always buys school supplies for her students :)

maithri - thanks - I think I want a recording of you for the rough days - something I could play back to remind myself
I could do one for you too - mine would be typically Brooklyn - picture it! "Yo Maithri don't be so gentle with that official he's a MF'ing fool, send him to me"
what a pair we would make - the poet and the cursing crazy woman - we could make a TV show!! and donate all the money - or build you your own hospital
ahhhh ...

rambling and snoop - thanks sharing that it actually works in practice!!
appreciate that

snoop - love your new pic :) and Mia says hi to the boys

This is the first time in about 3 years now that I didn't shop B&N online for the books on my Christmas gift list. I did get some books there but had Mandy shop for them in person, tonight, when she was over at State College -mainly because I didn't get my oldest grandson's book list till late this afternoon and was afraid to order them online cause I didn't know if they would arrive in time that way. But I will have to remember those search sites you mentioned -sounds like a good deal to me.

Will follow your suggestions Dianne not just for the holidays! :)

Dianne said...

kell - I'm glad you like the idea and that you'll try it - thanks!!

oldold lady of the hills - Mia says thanks, she thinks she's pretty sweet herself :)

jeni - I love to go to B&N in person too!! I can spend hours there - and get a Starbucks too lol

mary - I did a lot of research last night for an upcoming post and goodsearch worked great!

Nifty idea, thanks for passing it along. Sadly, a local animal shelter recently had a devastating fire, killing over 200 animals, mostly cats. Only nine managed to be rescued.

Dianne said...

frank - a horse farm near me had a similar tragedy!! they managed to save some ...
another farm has taken in all the survivors until they can re-build.
hugs to Benny :)
