It's Hard Out Here For A Wordzzler

Ten Word Challenge : partition, imagination, salvation, mirror image, green power, highway, roasting marshmallows, serial killer, autograph, cartography

Mini Challenge: cell phone, Big Mac, panther, legendary, poet’s corner

Time once again for RAVEN’S Wordzzle. Isn’t it amazing how Saturday rolls around, it’s like it happens every week.

Mini sentence: I can’t believe I came up with one. I try each week and it never happens.

TMZ caught former Black Panther and legendary rapper Big Mac Mofo shouting into his cell phone at a recent performance by on again/off again girlfriend Rhi Rha Ro at the LA rap club Poet’s Corner.

And the Mega ...

Mac Morgan aka Big Mac Mofo was speeding down Highway 101 after a long night at the clubs. Getting home and spending the weekend with his girls was his salvation. He caught himself smiling in the rear view mirror; his imagination took him to roasting marshmallows Saturday night after helping his oldest daughter with her cartography homework. When had map making become a subject for Middle School? Mac shook his head, his youngest was studying the impact of green power on the California coastline. She might be his mirror image in terms of personality but at 10 she was already much better educated than he would ever be.

The partition of Mac’s two lives was impenetrable. Although his past as a Black Panther was legendary and his present life as the granddaddy of rap was infamous Mac made sure neither persona touched his children. His ex-wife had tried to paint him as worse than a serial killer but he had won joint custody of his girls and he intended to keep it.

Mac’s cell phone rang, he hit the speaker button on the dashboard and the car filled with the sound of giggling. “What are the two of you doing up at this hour”. He tried to sound stern. “Waiting for you Daddy, we’re going to make you breakfast.”

The night of battling autograph hounds at Poet's Corner and arguing with his agent melted away as Mac turned into the driveway and saw his girls waiting in the doorway.

Dang dragon. I never know when it will show up.
I liked the mini sentence . But I really liked the longer story. You integrated the words into the story seamlessly.
Well done.

Aw Big Mac wants quiet life with his girls now - that's nice. :)

Quite a few of us used Big Mac as a nickname - great minds and all that eh? :)

I don't know how you do it! You are so creative! :) I love both but the mini was inspired!

I like this a lot. Even though this is fiction, I like to imagine that more celebrity lives are like this outside of the red carpet.

I have seen some great writing today, but so far I think you did the most seamless job of writing a coherent story and using all the words perfectly. If I could vote with the dragons, I'd give the Wordzzle Award to you!

Very much liked the parental side of the rapper. Wonder if his lyrics will reflect his love of children and fatherhood. That's a rap song I might be willing to pay to hear.

Great story.

Having started off my early morning with Dr. John's wordzzle over at his fortress...well - this rather nicely finishes my blog reading for the day.

You turning out your lights tonight girl?

Dianne said...

akelamalu - I'm only half thru reading all the wordzzles and yes, I have noticed Big Mac as a name - we are indeed great minds ;)

bob-kat - thanks!! I struggle to find one word that speaks to me and then the rest comes

lisa - I felt the need for a happy ending :)

travis - I like to imagine the same, and I think it might be so

quilly - thank you! how kind!!

rich - having lived in the projects when rap was starting it does have a lot of roots in true stories - original rap anyway - some of the newer kids just don't get it

aims - I'm so glad you enjoyed :)
I doubt I'll go dark for an hour although I think it's a great idea for large buildings - I'm looking forward to seeing a darkened NYC
we turn things off and down all the time

Loved your story! Rap singers for the most part aren't my cup of tea but you made this one a normal loving Dad!
Your single sentence was superb!

I wonder where the inspiration for the mini challenge came from ;o)
I, personally, would kick his behind, pack up my things & leave, never looking back. Ahhhh... the young ones have to learn their lessons on their own, don't they?

Great job!

My Chicklet inevitably heard of Rihanna being hit. I have a policy: if she asks a question, I don't BS her. So I filled her in saying we don't know all the details but giving her the basics. She just shook her head and said: "girls deserve better".

Yes, they do.
