She is OK. Her sons are OK.
Her cousin here in the states works for a Haitian charity and has been working around the clock to locate them and many others. A phone chain was set-up to pass the news along, I got the call early this morning.
Her Mom had a heart attack shortly after the earthquake and did not survive. She was elderly and in poor health, that is why my friend was there - to move her to a better place.
Without proper healthcare the very old and the very young are at risk. This was the story in Haiti even before the earthquake.

I'm glad they are ok, so sorry to hear about her Mom. I've been sending prayers to all over there too.
I learned yesterday that all my family are safe in Haiti. Mine are in St Marc. They are preparing for the flood of people they expect to come as people leave the city looking for somewhere to go, anywhere, just trying to get out of their current misery.
I’m very sorry to hear about the mother as well. Those are the statistics that don’t even get reported. Still, I’m so glad that everyone else was Ok! You are doing a very good thing spreading word of the best charities. You are a wonderful woman!!
Dianne I am glad to hear your friend and her sons are okay. Sadden though by the news her mother has died.
good news for some
Thanks so much for passing along the good news about your friend and her children. So glad to hear they made it through this disaster okay. Very sorry about her mother, though. . . That had to be such a trauma for her--and all concerned.
I'm sorry that the mom passed, but I'm very glad that they're okay.
A bitter sweet call that.
I agree with Rob, that is bittersweet! So sorry about your friends Mom, but I'm so happy your friends are okay!
Sylvia
Sorry about your friend's mother. Hope your friends will be okay down there and able to get out and back to NY without any trouble.
Trying to get people and supplies into Haiti is a logistical nightmare. All the infrastructure is gone. It wasn't that good to begin with. One airstrip, one port, mostly destroyed. It's just unbelievable.
I'm relieved to hear that your friend and the children are ok, but so sorry to hear of the loss of her mom.
Good News is sometimes more nice to hear than at other times. This is one of those more nicer times.
Keep praying.
just me - I have been doing the same, thank you
linda - I am glad that all are safe and bless them for preparing to help others
scott - you're a sweet guy, thank you
reb - thank you
queen size funny - the person who called me said pretty much the same thing as I did to the person I was asked to call
lisa - they are glad they were with her
now begins a god awful process of arrangements and trying to get home in the midst of "dark and overwhelming chaos" - that is what my friend told her cousin
cherie - thank you
she was very old and very weak
they have no place to stay, she would have suffered as many are
rob - I think it is a comfort to them that they were with her
sylvia - thank you
I feel the same way
jay - my friend is incredibly strong and so are her sons
I am so glad they have each other
I was told by the person that called that they are sharing a tent with a family who just took them in
one of the men tried to save the mother, he had some medical training or experience
details are sketchy, I was way down on the list, it's a big family
travis - thank you
my feeling of relief was huge when the phone rang
I have been thinking of her constantly
grayquill - this is absolutely one of those times
thank you
The Khamarav quote is so true.
Thank God your friends are OK. This has been such a horrendous event.
Hard as it is to say or think, the heart attack was perhaps a merciful end to what would have been endless suffering. I hope for the best for the younger generations, that their health will hold as they wait for resources to arrive. This is going to be a very long ordeal.
Am so glad to hear your friend is ok, Dianne!
Hi Dianne!
I'm so glad to hear they're OK!
X ya dear lady!
I'm so glad to know that your friend and her boys are ok. So sorry about her mother though. Thanks for letting us know.
So sorry to hear that your friend lost her mother, but so very glad that she and her boys are all right! Thank you.
Good to hear your friends are OK. Can any of us possibly imagine what is happening there?
What a mess. But as with your friend and her sons being okay there is always hope. Cheers Di!!
Dianne, my heart gores out to the people of Haiti. And I'm glad your friend and her sons are okay! Thank goodness! My husband and I keep texting $10. to Haiti... I hope it helps! :)
We prayed for all in Haiti today in church. I am just beside myself over all this. We will continue to pray.
<><
I am thankful your friend is OK although I am terribly sorry for her loss. Loss seems to be the word for what people in Haiti are experiencing. I pray that they recieve the help that they desperately need!
Good news albeit tempered by the loss of her mother .. I was watching This Week yesterday and listened hard to Bush not dig himself once again out of the Katrina hole .. he could have but he's sadly not his father who I assume is in poor health or he'd be out there with Clinton raising money.....
Very glad to know your friend is okay and so sorry to read about her Mom...The stress of The Earthquake and it's hideous aftermath, had to be incredibly hard on many many of the elderly...
I LOVE DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS....That was my choice for help in Haiti...They are on the job and were already there before the Earthquake. It is all beyond comprehension....
Just been catching up with your world and I am very relieved to hear that your friend is okay. I hope that they are getting the support and care they need out there along with all the other survivors. I must say I agree with you on how charities abuse the money they are entrusted with. I always choose who I support very carefully.
