Six Word Saturday: Heat and Hair

I Blame It On The Heat

The temperature reached the 90s on Wednesday and I needed to venture out for an appointment. I arrived early so I hung out in my car to people watch.

When I noticed this gentleman ...

I immediately thought ...

Give Me A Head With Hair

She asks me why
I'm just a hairy guy
I'm hairy noon and night
Hair that's a fright
I'm hairy high and low
Don't ask me why
Don't know
It's not for lack of bread
Like the Grateful Dead
Darling

Gimme head with hair
Long beautiful hair
Shining, gleaming,
Streaming, flaxen, waxen

Give me down to there hair
Shoulder length or longer
Here baby, there mama
Everywhere daddy daddy

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

Let it fly in the breeze
And get caught in the trees
Give a home to the fleas in my hair
A home for fleas
A hive for bees
A nest for birds
There ain't no words
For the beauty, the splendor, the wonder
Of my...

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

I want it long, straight, curly, fuzzy
Snaggy, shaggy, ratty, matty
Oily, greasy, fleecy
Shining, gleaming, streaming
Flaxen, waxen
Knotted, polka-dotted
Twisted, beaded, braided
Powdered, flowered, and confettied
Bangled, tangled, spangled, and spaghettied!

Oh say can you see
My eyes if you can
Then my hair's too short

Down to here
Down to there
Down to where
It stops by itself

They'll be ga ga at the go go
When they see me in my toga
My toga made of blond
Brilliantined
Biblical hair

My hair like Jesus wore it
Hallelujah I adore it
Hallelujah Mary loved her son
Why don't my mother love me?

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

So there I was, sitting in my car belting out the song - loud and proud, and a wee bit insane.

I saw the original Broadway performance of Hair and all these millions of years later I still remember all the words.

Looks like he stepped out of the 70's ...

I don't remember all the words but as soon as I started reading them, I knew immediately what this was from! Never saw the play but I did have the album with all the music on it. I think that album is currently in my son's possession and I'll wager he's never once played it and listened to the music and lyrics from a great musical. Kids! Don't know what they missed sometimes or what they still have lacking in their lives by not hearing things like this too!
Peace.

I am shouting the happiest "good golly" for this COWSILL-Y LOOKBACK (<-- "Click") your SIX WORDS take me to! I simply love trips down flowery-powery Memory Lane! "Hair"! <-- Now there's a song where you can crank all your car windows down, let the tresses blow, and sing along to with your volume on high!

I never really knew the song - somehow I missed the "Hair" era, but I was sure that is what you were quoting. Great fun to see the words that match the photo so well.

Oh man, it was miserable here this past week too. Thank God that cool front came through. The didn't turn on the AC in the dorm, and I was like to DIE!!! My body can't shift with these snap changes in the weather. Hope you like your new "do." :)

I was smack dab in the middle of the "Hair" era and those lyrics really take me back. That song was on the radio at the same time every morning when I was driving to school in early 1969.

What a great picture, Dianne!

OMG, I cannot believe how LONG his dreads are?!?!?

I never saw the show, but have always loved the music.

My fav part....

"Gimme head with hair
Long beautiful hair
Shining, gleaming,
Streaming, flaxen, waxen"

Ok, now guess what song I'm gonna be singing all night long?

Tee, hee.

And aren't you glad that 90 degree heatwave is over?

Today was perfect!

X to you and the gang!

I do believe that song would have come to my mind, too, but there's no way I would have remembered all of the words. I'm sure I would have mutilated a lot of them in the process but I'm sure I'd have had a good time doing so! That head of hair is most definitely inspiring!

Now THAT was some hair! Wow. I wonder how long it takes to wash and dry it?

Well that brought back memories. How cool that you saw Hair on Broadway. Great photo.

I saw the movie and loved it!

That is a marvellous head of hair!

Wow that was amazing hair, I’m actually pretty jealous. What’s more amazing is that you remembered those lyrics perfectly. I would have had to google; I have to look back at things I’ve written to remember the words. Lol.

monica - it sure is!! thanks for the visit

jc - he definitely was struttin' and stylin' ;)

jeni - my son doesn't like this music either although he does like Sinatra so maybe they skip a generation ;)

cheryl - I was a hippie and it was the first Broadway show I attended so it made a lasting impression

Kay - I love it too!! I have the CD of the original cast and the movie and the new cast from the revival

sparkle - yea baby!! I wish I had the CD with me that day, I would have sounded better with music

linda - as soon as I saw him the entire show started to play in my mind

caroline - it really was a sight :)

bobbie - yes it is LOL

cherie - our AC needed service and the guy got her just as it got cool - story of my life :)

jeanie - we grew up at around the same time :)
1969 was quite a year

ron - and again we have a winner!! that is my favorite line too
and yes, the heat was killing me
I thought of you

linda - considering the looks I was getting I know I was mutilating the music

mrs D - it stays that way for so long he probably spends less time than we do

hilary - I'm amazed the shot came out - I didn't want him to see me so I took it real quick

betty - the movie was one of the few that did justice to the live show :)

LadyFi - he was something to see :)

scott - hell, I'm jealous
and I did Google to put it in the post because I can't type and sing and I can't remember the words unless I sing

Love the image of you belting out the song in the car park. Thanks for popping by to my blog. Yes spent all day rewriting, I mean how hard is it to understand a story where film characters are really in your life! My six-word Saturday
