Farewell To Leaves

A wicked wind storm has been howling up and down the east coast since last night. In Trenton, NJ several small planes were tossed about on the tarmac ...

So I'm really glad that I decided to take advantage of this past Sunday's beautiful weather. I took a drive to one of our many county parks and captured some of the last of fall's beauty ...

This morning a ton of leaves invaded the kitchen when I opened the side door and the carport floor was completely covered. I filled 6 mulch bags.

I love the sound of crisp leaves flying down the road. They appear to be dancing. And even after they fall beauty remains ...

this is the same bush as the one above just a few days later

"The winds will blow their own freshness into you,
and the storms their energy,
while cares will drop away from you
like the leaves of Autumn."

Oh, Dianne, Dianne, Dianne...these are without a doubt the most GOREGEOUS Fall photos I've seen this year!

They literally take my breath away!

"I love the sound of crisp leaves flying down the road. They appear to be dancing."

Me too, me too! And one of my favorite things to do is to walk through them; listening to the crunch!

Thank you so much for sharing these images, dear lady! They totally put a smile on my face.

X ya!

P.S. what a gifted photographer you are!

You guys have had a much prettier fall than we have. It stayed hot so long and we had so little rain that everything just turned brown and died. :(

Beautiful photos! And yes, you were right to get out there and enjoy the beauty while you could. The leaf clearing storm hit us Saturday night into Sunday, with power outages and trees on houses. But our leaves don't rattle down the street. They clump in the wet gutters and clog the drains.

Oh these are wonderful shots, Dianne. I see your trees held their colour for a couple of weeks longer than ours. Thanks for sharing your lovely autumn. I'll be posting a few more from ours in a couple of hours.

Cool pics. Our trees got blown away recently but the bushes are hanging on.

The 10th picture (farewell-9) looks like the ground is covered with popped ballons.

Those pictures are absolutely magnificent! They should be in a travel brochure, seriously.

I didn’t know NJ got hurricane winds like that in the fall…shit!

From the looks of those planes, you got your amazing pictures just in time.
I too love to drive down leaf littered roads and watch them dance out of the way.

What a difference a (few) day(s) makes! Beautiful colours in those leaves but what a shame about the little planes. I don't expect they liked bouncing.

Autumn is probbaly my favourite season as the colours are just gorgeous and there is nothing like kicking your way through a dead bed of leaves ;-)

Such gorgeous colours - I am glad you caught them so you could share them with us!

great pics. that one of all the different leaves on the ground looks like confetti after a party.

Oh wonderful post ... our sidewalks were golden covered with ginko leaves and the unspoken step carefully.

DJan - thank you!! I'm really glad you liked the pics :)

Ron - I wish you were an agent, with support and enthusiasm like yours I'd surely sell photos :)
thanks

cloudia - it sure does :)

ghwace - luckily no one was hurt in this storm
thank you for your kind words about my photos :)

jay - it was hot here too but we got a lot of rain and that made all the difference
hope you're having fun with the family

linda - I'm so glad I went out Sunday, I almost didn't since the Jets were on and I was tired
we get our share of leaf clogs also
my son was out there last night clearing things out

hilary - thanks!! fall is such a wonderful time for photos :)

mike - we lost a tree earlier this year
I like that popped balloon shot too, thanks :)

scott - wow!! thank you, that made me smile
we have been having more wind storms the past 2 years than I remember from the past

patti - they do look like they're running to get out of traffic :)

jabblog - there are so many leaves on the ground today and piles of them everywhere
I don't feel too bad about the planes - no one was hurt and I know that airport, it's full of Richie Richs and corporate planes so they can deal with it

bob-kat - it's my favorite too - for the colors and for cool temps
hugs to you and kitties :)

ellen - that's the shot Mike said looked like popped balloons
I like that one a lot, thanks :)

daryl - thanks :)
Hope brought me a pile of leaves from the front lawn and there was dog poop in it!!
my neighbor down the road is an ass who doesn't clean up after his dog
I washed her hands for 10 minutes
I did bring the poop leaves to the neighbor and told him that next time I won't put it in a bag first - hehehehehehe

That was quite a windstorm, I wonder how they will get that plane on its feet and how much effort to repare.

The leaves are still pretty on the ground as long as I don't have to bag them.

Great photos, Dianne! I love, love, love the tree hanging over the fence (it could have been taken on some New England country road) and the leaves in the first picture look like beautiful flower petals. Wonderful quote as well. :) Too bad about those planes, though! Yikes!

Dianne, those are such lovely and vibrant colours. I love the first bush, it looks almost like a fuchsia plant. The confetti look is wonderful too.

Thanks for letting me remember some of the other coast's beauty. Your pictures are great. They made me think of when I used to walk to the metro in DC kicking through the colors.

Wow it looks fake! So utterly gorgeous.

The leaves on the ground look as though there was a huge extravaganza of a party held there. So colorful!

These really are the most gorgeous photos!! YOu had much more color than we did this year.

Such BEAUTIFUL Pictures, Dianne....The Leaves certainly were gorgeous this year and you captured them Beautifully, too, in ALL their Glory!

It is amazing how a Big Wind can just blow them all down, isn't it?
LOVE the picture of the leaves there spilling ovrer onto the sidewalk...! We rarely ever see anything like that---mostly we see Palm Fronds that have been blown off by heavy winds!

Linda said...

Looks like that wind did quite the number of those leaves that were still hanging on but they sure did make for a beautiful carpet underfoot. I so hate to see them go, though, as that usually means that snow isn't too far behind and New Englander or not, I just don't like the stuff!

Fantastic pics! Really wish we had color like that down here in San Diego. Makes me wish that we lived in a location that had actual seasons...

Absolutely gorgeous - Thanks so much for sharing.

My daughter saw some fantastic trees, but decided that the light would be gone by the time she got her camera, so decided to wait until the next morning. Next morning, the trees were bare!

Hello Dianne,

Fantastic pictures, the colours are glorious. We live quite close to an Arboretum and it is always a pleasure to visit in the Autumn.

Our leaves are just about finished falling now, apart from a few left on the Oak tree, then it will be time for the 'big clean up', what fun that will be!!!
