Elizabeth

When I was a girl Elizabeth Taylor was the epitome of glamor to me.

No one was cooler or hotter than she was in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof. I didn't know you could wear a slip like that ...

She was a beautiful child ...

Although National Velvet is the most popular of her early movies I always loved ...

Later I was mesmerized by her performance in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf. I knew these people, lived with these people and now they were out in the open.

Elizabeth received an Oscar for that performance as she had for Butterfield 8 ...

On the set with the love of her life Richard Burton.

Years later I would admire and respect the voice she gave to those battling with AIDS. I remember that time - hushed voices in hospitals, memorial services where no one spoke, families coming into town to pack up an apartment and not looking at any of their family member's friends.

"I will not be silenced and I will not give up and I will not be ignored."

She was the founding chairwoman of AMFAR

and also created  her own foundation where 100% of the money goes to services and support.

Her light was shining at her 75th Birthday party ...

with her four children

I know she became Dame Elizabeth but to me she will always be one fabulous broad.

Peaceful Journey Elizabeth

Great tribute and so true! There's not likely to be anyone like her again, she was definitely a one of kind and an amazing woman.

I can't wait 'til TCM does its Liz Taylor tribute. They've got lots of movies to choose from.

And, she was hot as a firecracker in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."

Glorious tribute, Dianne!

Thank you for posting this.

It's so ironic, because yesterday while I was at work and heard of her passing, I immediately thought of YOU.

To me, she was the most beautiful star that ever lived. And her beauty emanated from the inside.

I saw her once in person while attending a performance of A Chorus Line in NYC. And as she walked into the theater, everyone gasped.

Yes, she really did have violet eyes!

My two favorite films were A Place In The Sun and Virginia Woolf.

Peaceful journey Elizabeth.

There are many beauties in the world but none as beautiful as Elizabeth. Her soul was also beautiful. Thank you for your tribute.

She was an extraordinary celebrity! In the UK last night she was described as a warm and friendly woman who did a lot of work for charity. She had so much ill-health in her life but rose from childhood stardom to adult appreciation - a hard step to take. RIP!

I knew that if anyone was going to write the perfect tribute to Liz, it would be you. You didn't disappoint.

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf was a powerhouse of a film. It's odd how you miss somebody only when they're gone. The world suddenly seems hollower without her :-(

What a wonderful tribute to a remarkable woman. I loved how she wore her passion - her loves, her vices, her causes - so openly and honestly, regardless of what people thought.

Nice tribute. I am an Elizabeth Taylor fan as well. My father thought she was one of the most beautiful women in the world, in her time. I agree.

You always have the most wonderful tributes so much so that I'm hoping I pass on before you do so you can do one for me! :-)

Seriously, though, Elizabeth Taylor was a true movie star - the epitome of Hollywood's royalty unlike the so-called stars that we have these days.

And those eyes ... what can one say about those eyes?

I knew that I could count on you for a touching tribute. I loved her as well. She had that look that always knocked me off my feet. Those big eyes and full lips…. I’ma miss her!

She was really a great star -- the definition of it really. We were away on the boat and didn't have internet access or newspaper -- someone in our group had a TV and told me, but I felt bad not getting to read or hear any tributes myself. So thank you so much for this! It's better than anything I'd find when I have time to search news sites (the first thing I have to do is catch up on my favorite blogs).

Beautiful tribute, my dear Dianne. I LOVED Her! I always felt a kind of kinship to her because we were so close in ahe--(I am 8 months older that her..)...I loved her Honesty---she always told it like it is---I didn't know her, but I know people who did, and who only have GOOD things to say about this remarkable woman....! Like you, I so admired her speaking up about AIDS--she was the very first BIG Celebrity to do so and it literally changed the face of AIDS.....She help raise tens of millions for AIDS Research---And I know how hard it is to raise money for Charity--but she "put her money where her mouth is"....over and over and over....There was no one more Beautiful. And so very talented, too....
Such a loyal friend and such a devoted family person, as well.....
Rest In Peace, Elizabeth---you were a great dame, who also happened to be a Dame!

She would have loved this...

Life with Father was my favorite, too. And somehow, I've always missed Cat, although I know the story. I'll definitely watch it next time it's shown, which will probably be any day now.

She was certainly glamorous, classy, talented, dedicated, and intelligent. God bless her final journey.
