Class of 2011

I went to my “niece’s” high school graduation party yesterday. Her Dad and my baby brother have been best friends since grammar school and so I was the big sister to both. Over the years we have all celebrated weddings and births together; we have comforted one another in hospital corridors and at funerals; and we have marked the milestones together as we watch our children grow.

Many of the graduate’s friends were at the party and I had an exceptionally wonderful time meeting them and getting to know them. They are all off to colleges such as Temple, St. Johns, Northeastern, FIT or BU. They will be studying to be a special ed teacher, a sports psychologist, a healthcare coordinator and a doctor. They talked about living in Philadelphia or Chicago or Boston with anticipation.

Future force to be reckoned with in the fashion industry

They have all spent the four years of high school together. Many of them have known each other since early childhood. They all have jobs that they have worked since they were old enough. Many of them work a second job during the summer at one of the many Jersey Shore attractions. Speaking of the Jersey Shore, what a shame these kids won’t get a reality show in place of asshats famous for their muscles or their ability to crash cars while drinking.

I had so much fun talking to them about life and politics and religion and sports and a million other things. They are all so engaged in the world around them and beyond them.

All good wishes to your niece and the class of 2011! Glad you had a nice time at the party.
My son graduated too... hopefully, if my internet connection doesn't go wiggy again, I'll get the pics up very soon.

A HUGE congrats to your niece, Dianne!

OMG...she's BEAUTIFUL!

This post brought back so many wonderful memories for me and my own HS graduation. In fact, our HS cap and gowns were the same colors - Gold and Blue. My senior year was by far the best year I ever had in HS.

I bet they all LOVED talking to you during the party!

Have great day, dear lady!

Hugs to you and Hope!

Aww, that's really sweet!
Good for her and ALL the kids...I think we don't give the 'good' kids enough credit and focus.
Have a great day!

Your niece is a very beautiful girl!

Leaving school and getting ready for uni seems like such a long time ago (well it was such a long time ago!) - I envy her the amazing adventures that await her.

How exciting. The world suddenly open with opportunity and smart wide eyed kids have it for the taking.

Congrats all around! Here's hoping that they'll be able to score summer jobs. And tell them that there's no hurry to finish college. The "five year plan" seems to work the best! :-)

Oh what I would give to be able to go back to when I was 18 and start over.

What an uplifting post. Sometimes I worry about the next generation of kids, and then I read something like this and realize that there are plenty of motivated and talented people out there. And yes, she is just beautiful.
