What The Duck Saw

I was pulling out of the marina parking lot when I noticed this one lone duck just sitting there gazing toward the trees. All the others had moved on down the stream.

I pulled over and crossed the road to get closer and followed the duck's gaze into the trees ...

One of the guys at the nearby fish shack said they are herons. The one farther up in the tree never moved but the other one posed a bit for me. At one point I felt he was looking right into my eyes. Then he grew tired of me and gave me the butt.

There are many creeks and streams in and around my town and I'm pleased to say that many local groups work hard to protect them.

Great to know people are working hard to protect the streams. SO important.
Now, about hiring that duck as a heron-spotter... what do you think a duck would want for wages? Especially a duck who does such a good job. Love the herons in the trees.

Great shots for the day and it's good to know they're being protected -- doesn't happen everywhere, that's for sure! Hope your week is going well, Dianne! Hugs to Hope!

We have some herons that hang out around here too.

A heron used to hang out at a small lake near me. Seeing this, I'm wondering if it's still there.
It's good to know there are groups nearby who are helping.
Nice photos!

Wonderful shots Dianne. I am glad the duck made you curious and that there are groups looking out for the habitats in your area.

I love herons. those are egrets I think, which are herons. we have a lot of smaller ones that hang out in the pastures with the cows.

Nice pictures. I didn't know they roost in trees, but then again, I never gave it any thought before! :-)

Lovely birds, aren't they? I've never seen a white heron/egret. We do get Green, Great Blue and Night herons around here. The Blue heron has been around a lot lately. Thanks for sharing these fine birds.

Beautiful shots Dianne, I love the nature photos. That’s awesome that you have some protected space close enough to visit. We have a bird sanctuary/nature preserve 10 minutes away as well and we go all the time.
