Here Comes Chanukah

The Festival of Lights begins tonight.

I think of my Nana a lot during Chanukah, she loved the food and the music and she loved having people around her. Most of the people who celebrated Chanukah with her were not Jewish; Nana loved sharing traditions with everyone.

My Nana

My favorite part was lighting the menorah together. She would hold my hand and she'd whisper the 3 blessings to me and I would say them out loud.

This past Sunday I saw the Yeshiva Boys Choir perform on TV. I immediately fell in love with them; Nana would have adored them.

You can check them out at their place

My favorite video of them is here

I wish you all light and music - on this night and always.

I loved the video, Dianne. Those boys are talented actors as well as singers! I think this even gave me a glimpse into my husband's childhood in Montreal. He never talks much about it except about summer camp, and then he insists on singing camp songs. LOL
He's quite funny now. He buys Christmas presents for his daughters, who were raised Catholic by their mother, and for the grandchildren, but he's very lax about sending or delivering the gifts. They can be days, weeks, or even months late.
Thanks so much for sharing this video. It makes me feel good.
All the best to you and yours during the holiday season and in the coming year, with a special hug for Hope.

Happy Chanukah! There is a cute picture making the rounds this year with Hans Solo holding the menorah. It says, "Keep the HAN in HANnukkah!" :)

I have a feeling I would have liked your Nana too. Holidays are all about having fun with good people.

Hello and happy almost Chanukah! I was looking around the internet for images of menorahs to use on an evite and was astonished to see a photo of the same menorah I grew up with and still have! I clicked and it brought me to this old post. We have the same menorah! Amazing. It makes sense, of course, there are only so many menorah manufacturers, I suppose. I think my mother must have bought hers on the east coast in the '60s. Do you have any family information about yours? Anyway, wishing you happiness and light in the dark winter! Shalom, Julia
