Grammy Moments

I enjoy award shows; I like the fashion and the star gazing. I DVR them and fast forward through all the yada-yada-yada. The Grammys are especially entertaining since there are so many musical performances. I always find a new artist I'm interested in.

LL Cool J did a fine job as host. He pushed open the curtain of tension with the way he spoke of Whitney Houston - "there's been a death in the family"

He's so handsome. And solid!

The highlight of the award presentations was Adele - my girl was nominated for 6 and took home 6.
She sounded wonderful and looked divine.

Rhianna gave an exciting performance. She reminds me of a young Whitney. I hope Rhianna stays away from men like her ex Chris Brown. Heaven knows Bobby Brown did nothing but drag Whitney down into his mania.

Then there was all the "old guys" - Bruce, Sir Paul, Beach Boys, Glen Campbell.

Bruce can still jump and his butt looks tight, Paul is a force of nature, and the Beach Boys appear to have been preserved. Perhaps it's all the weed.

Glen Campbell is slowly slipping into the haze of Alzheimers. He's touring with his daughter Ashley at his side. It's touching to see how she looks out for him.

I was struck by how many artists thrive through the years while others are gone too soon.

Jennifer Hudson sang for Whitney

I'd like to hug Whitney's daughter Bobbi Christina.

Peaceful Journey Whitney

I must admit it was a bit disappointing this year. Not much competition and the performances ... a couple of good ones, the rest was poopy :(
Happy Valentine's Day, Di! :)

I didn't watch, but I sure enjoyed your take on it. I love LL Cool J, I watch him on NCIS LA. I also love Adele, she's also a force of nature. I've never liked Paul, I was a John Lennon groupie. Your review is stellar. Thanks! :-)

Nice post, Dianne. Whitney was just too young - so sad.

I didn't watch because the majority of music is not to my taste but to see the absolute joy and wonder in Adele's eyes in the replays, was heartwarming. She is a true talent. I was also internally waving the rock horns and screaming, ROCK&ROLL 'cause the Foo Fighters won.

LL Cool J is just scrumptious. My heart does go out to Whitney's daughter. She will have a lot to overcome in the future. I hope she makes it.

I tuned in for a few minutes in between other things I was watching. No DVR, so it would have been torture to stay with it the whole night.
And I don't really keep up on new artists and music.
I know Adele though and did see her perform. Very talented!

Sad .. and yet not unexpected

interesting reading the comments because we typically do not watch the Grammy's but because of the 'oldies' and our new adoration for Adele we watched and were not disappointed (except for Foo Fighters) The show was full of happy moments but sadness as well with the tributes to Whitney Houston but also sad that Glen Campbell has Alzheimers...

That was such a good review of the grammies. I can't stop thinking about Whitney's daughter. We sure hope she can make it too. We were very sad about the loss of Whitney. Take care.

Great review! It is also a wonderful companion piece to your preivous post esp when Adele won and won and won, looked stunning, and sounded amazing.

Since I didn't watch the Grammy's, I thank you for sharing this great recap, Dianne!

However, I did hear from people that I work with that Adele was BRILLIANT!

Beautiful photo of Whitney's daughter!

Peaceful Journey Whitney.

I stopped watching the Grammys years ago when the music became noise...Now after reading your post I am sorry I did not DVR it. I did see LL Coo J say "there has been a death in our family" and teared up so I probably could not have watched with out increasing the price of Kleenex stock. Thanks for a great post.

Such a shame Whitney pushed the self desctruct button. :(

Adele is just wonderful!

I actually sat through them. I have the mute button close at hand and work on something else - Sunday it was putting together a model dragon with bad instructions. It was fun seeing all the old guys, sad about Glen, even sadder about Whitney. Adored Adele, still am not impressed with Hudson though.

Indeed, Indeed....One only hopes that dear Whitney is at Peace now....Gone too soon....!
I fast forwardeded through a lot of The Grammy's---so much of the music is not for me---But, some of it was quite wonderful....!
I'm an Award Show lover, too....And watched a repeat of The BAFTAS at 11:40pm that same night....It was quite wonderful.
Looking forward to The Oscars---and I always enjoy The IMAGE Awards, too....!

Loved your report on the Grammy Awards. I couldn't have watched anything about Whitney because I'd have been crying all night.
How wonderful for Adele, 6 out of 6.
Very sad about Glen Campbell. His "Galveston" still gives me shivers (the good kind). His Alzheimer's Disease gives me the other kind of shivers.
Thanks for sharing the awards with those of us who didn't watch.

Great review! As for the Whitney thing, it was a shock to hear the news, but at the same time it was no surprise. Bobby introduced her to a lifestyle that inevitably took control of her. There was no escape.

Sad.

I was happy for Adele. That girl can really SING. Bittersweet to see Bruce without Clarence at his side, but oh that final jam was worth all the dryness in between (most of which I missed). Poor Glen Campbell.Whitney? Tragic. A shooting star fallen too soon.

I didn't watch (I seldom watch much television these days) but you gave a great summary :) Sounds like they gave Whitney a respectful send off.

The Grammy's are by far my favorite of all the awards shows. Mostly because it's really about the performances and the awards are kind of secondary.

I always get a kick out of people who complain that too much of the show is stuff they don't listen to. That's part of what I love about it. I might hear something new and different that I didn't know I liked.

Then again, they continue to confirm that I really can't stand Taylor Swift.
