The Times Square Alliance has designated a part of their 2013 Wishing Wall for memories of Dick Clark.

Another legend - Pat Summitt will now serve as head coach emeritus of Tennessee's Lady Vols basketball team after 38 years as their head coach. Pat is the winningest head coach in NCAA history - men or women - any division. She stepped down this week to concentrate on her health. She has been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's.
Ms. Summitt will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
When asked how his mother would cope with her latest challenge her son, also a basketball coach, said she would follow her own advice ...

Such wonderful tributes. I plan on keeping Ms. Summit's advice in my wallet, referring to it often. <--Thanks! And thank-you, Dick Clark, wherever you are, because I'm sure God's been saving an extra-special place just for you! One of my fondest childhood memories is watching Mr. Clark pencil-measure the depth of teenage girls' teased bouffant hairstyles on American Bandstand. Sleep peacefully, Dick.

Alzheimer's is a bitch of a disease. My father-in-law died of it a couple of years ago. I think it's harder for the carer than it is for the sufferer in many ways.
I'm so sad about Dick Clark. He was one of my heros.
"Left foot, right foot, breathe" is so wonderful it brought tears to my eyes.
Both of my parents had Alzheimer's when they were 80, but early-onset is unimaginable. Knowing what is coming must be the scariest thing. I would shoot myself, I'm sure, if I had that diagnosis. I watched my father dwindle away, and it was hell to watch. Mom was really more fortunate, she died of other causes before the Alzheimer's progressed beyond absentmindedness.

I can't add much to what's already been said, other than to endorse what Mike said regards that quote - and 'ain't it so true?
I was so sad that day; I think seeing Pat Summitt step down made me realize how fast her decline in health had been and then Dick Clark passing away, then my husband's uncle died and just wasn't a very good day at all...
These days it seems we lose an icon or two every week. Must be because all these people were ones I grew up with, and now I'm old, too. Another reminder to be grateful for today. :-)

When I heard about the passing of Dick Clark, it really affected me because I (like many others) have such fond memories of American Bandstand (which was originally shot here in Philly), and New Years Eve in Times Square. He was such an American Tradition.
I had no idea about the Wishing Wall in Times Square, so thank you for sharing that because I've gotta stop by there the next time I'm in NYC.

Lovely post, lovely tributes. Dick Clark's American Bandstand heyday was sort of after my time (I am really old and besides that we didn't have TV when I was in high school) but he sure did give it a good fight and that's to be admired.
Ms Summitt is a role model -- I love that advice, we sure could all remember and follow that whatever walk of life and whatever stage of life we're in. "Left foot, right foot, breathe." Beautiful!!!!

I hate to think what my teen years would have been without American Bandstand. It is all that keep me in the loop at my country high school.
