I had been in the house for days when I decided I really had to get out last Thursday. The news had said showers in the morning with gradual clearing after 1 PM.
I looked out the window a little after 1 and the sky did indeed seem to be brightening so out I went.
Once outside I noticed that the sky not visible from the kitchen window was dark and foreboding but in my capacity as freakin' self proclaimed meteorologist I decided the storms were headed north.
I was already out and the cupboards were bare so off I went.
Not even 10 minutes later ...
The first drops hit the car so hard I jumped. Even with the wipers on high it was impossible to see. Many of us pulled into the first parking lot we could find and just sat.
For 40 minutes.
The streets flooded so quickly.
The excitement never ends.

Lots of this going on all over the US this year.
oh, i so want some of this rain!
Lots of weird weather everywhere this year!!! Just glad you didn't get totally stranded somewhere!! Take care!! Hugs to you and to Hope!!
Send some showers to me, too.
I'm SO glad you were in a car when the rain came down so heavily.
And yes, as Sylvia said, hugs to you and to Hope.
K
Brilliant photos! They were worth a trip to sit in the rain. :)
Yikes! That is a LOT of rain in a short period of time. Hopefully it was just a passing squall and not something worse. Your pictures are great. :-)
OY, OY, OY!!! Well, I guess it is back to the meteorologists drawing board, for you...!(lol)
What a mess, my dear Dianne....!!!
So much rain...!
Hugs To You And HOPE!!
(((((((HUGS)))))))
AWESOME shots, Dianne!!!
Love that second one, especially!
WOW...that was some rain!
Last month we had a really severe rain storm here in Philly, which I got caught in while WALKING home from the grocery store without an umbrella. I was soaking wet by the time I got home. It had been so hot though, getting wet felt great!
X to you, Hope, Siren, and Isadora!
Looks and sounds like the rain we get down here. The difference is ours usually only last about 15 minutes.
Hope you didn't get drenched!
Yeppers. We're experiencing that sort of strange weather in the mountain regions here in San Diego. The weathering is acting wonky, that's for sure!
Cheez...what can you do though but laugh I guess....glad you were able to pull off safely. (And you might want to consider getting a new meteorologist BTW ;>)
Glad you lived to tell the tale. That kind of thing can be scary. We had a downpour here last Friday. Basically, we received 1/2 the year's average rainfall in a few hours. We do live in the desert, but still. The water in an underpass filled almost to the top of a 12 ft clearance. You talk about your flash floods. I should post a picture on my blog about it.
Brrr, looks cold and wet. We've got smog from burning forest fires and humid heat here in Malaysia. Don't know what's worse!
Were you wearing white slacks? That always makes it rain for me.
YIKES .... you needed pontoons
WOW you won't need to water the garden for a while!
I wouldn't mind having a rainstorm like that again. It's been years since we had a really hard long rain.
We got into a rain storm in Ohio while traveling, where each drop seems like a quarter cupful of water. We seldom get rain that hard here in the Seattle area. Our rain is usually softer, and longer.
We have had the same kind of rain storms this summer...No fun being out in them but your shots sure are awesome....
Yup, it's been like that a couple times down here too.
Neat photos.
See? You're just as accurate as a meteorologist. They're right 50% of the time too.
We had a rain like that up at the new place the other day. The foundation for the garage had been newly cemented and set. And I guess on a slight slope because all of that rain decided to roll off of the foundation and come into the house. It took a lot of newspapers to soak that up.
Wonderful shots, Dianne. Your timing for an outing stinks but your photographic eye is spot on.
That's crazy - I don't think I have ever been in rain that hard...I know I have never been in rain that hard. Did you spot Noah?
Tee hee! I'm a great one for judging the weather through the window and then getting caught out. I hope you had something good to read or listen to for those 40 minutes.
