Tales of Two Kitties - Intro

The post below shows Mia and Siren together - kind of, sort of. For them it's together.

They are sharing space and time without any bars between them.

Tolerance is pretty much the name of the game and that's fine. They occasionally fight - this is mostly Mia swiping blindly at Siren's face as he dodges her claws and cries. I swear his cry sounds like "why?, why?".

Mia will ignore him as long as he keeps his distance. If Siren comes too close he will be warned by very loud hissing.

We think Mia is deaf. She does not respond to sound. I stand right behind her and clap my hands and she doesn't turn around. Siren watches her walk down the hall and she is only aware of him when he comes within smelling distance. I enter the room and she only looks at me if I shake the bed or come into view.

Her regular vet is on vacation. I'll have her checked when he's back. It's not critical and if she is deaf then it is just one more reason why I'm glad she found me. I'll make sure she's comfy and safe and Siren will put up with her.

Sorry about the slideshow being in a separate post - again!! Photobucket html code is not working for me - again!! I installed Picasa but I hate the way captions look in their slideshow and I didn't feel like playing around anymore.

I'm learning a new Unix program, Photoshop, Picasa and I just upgraded my data entry software. I am too old for all this.

Poor Mia... With Tara the impact of living on the street and being sick and malnourished was loss of vision, though she isn't blind. I hope maybe Mia's deafness will be reversible... I suspect that eventually if Siren learns to work around that and not surprise her from behind, she will relax a bit. I hope so. Loved the slide show.

Raven - we can't decide if it's just deafness or if she has other neurological issues. Or is it deafness and age. Or ...
The bottom line is she seems comfortable and happy. She eats, she's regular lol - she plays with her toys, she's very affectionate to Jeffrey and mostly affectionate to me. And she purrs.
As for Siren - he sits up on the chest for hours just looking at her, the second his paws touch the bed she goes balistic so the element of surprise isn't her only problem with him lol

I think I'll have to do some tribute to my chihuahua's.

I think that some sort of accommodation between this pair is inevitable. They will decide when this is to be in each cat's time. Our cats get along so well only because they were litter mates. Both cats are beautiful and have found their permanent home...

queen size funny bone - please do! I love other folks' animals almost as much as mine :)

ralph - you got that right! I just set the stage and they decide the show :)

I love animals! I just wish my dog and cat loved each other.

My young uns still don't get along. But lately they have been not getting along in closer proximity to each other. Maybe there is hope yet.

I am happy that Mia found you too. The two of them will work it out eventually. Glad they're getting along together as well as this.

Cats rock. One question...Is that a padded headboard on the bed? Mmmmmm. Cheers Di!!

Dianne said...

tammy - I clearly know exactly what you mean :)

fermicat - "not getting along in closer proximity" - perfect way to put it!

bobbie - thanks :) I'm very happy we've come this far.

Oh Matt-Man padded headboards are for sissy girls, where would the handcuffs go!

I'm so glad to see them sharing the same space, when did the screen door come down?
We had a special needs kitty for several years - I think we loved her more than any of the other cats.

I'm glad Mia found a great home. Deaf or not, I know she's happy with you.
Love the pic show with "kitty" thoughts :o)

If she is deaf the safest possible place for her is with you.

Uh oh, two comments same day - can I do that? Just popping back in to tell you that I'm passing on an award to you, cuz you're cool... but I already told you that. Come on over - we're havin' a party.
Two olives and a twist?

shelly - the screen door is still up - Siren needs it sometimes when he gets overly anxious BUT I leave it open all day and Mia does't go into the crate anymore Whoo Hoo!!
I'll be over, thanks
and hold the olives lol

ivanhoe - I love trying to convey their thoughts - thanks!

knight - you're so good to me and about me - thank you sweet girl.

Cats are such wonderful creatures. My husband is not a fan of cats so we have two dogs instead but I have had cats with great and different personalities in the past.

I'm glad Mia is comfortable and happy.

I wonder what the room would look like if the two actually had a cat fight, all that satin!

faye - I would love to have dogs too, I'd love to have a zoo! - I lived in an apartment until a few years ago and always worked such long hours that it never seemed fair - dogs need far more space than cats do.

mark - not a problem, it's all just 'satin look' cheap fabic ;)
in fact Mia uses the side of the comforter to get up on the bed and the material shows little wear for all that abuse.

Mia's in the best possible home, it's so great she found you.

You're taking on a lot of tech! The good thing about Photoshop is if you get frustrated, it's easy to paint mustaches on people.

Dianne said...

jo - easy for you! lol
I can't even find the freakin' tools half the time. I think I'm going to take a class. there's one starting in September not too far from me.
Mia says squee!!

I know your pain with learning the programs. I learned photoshop and many others a long time ago, but every single time you learn one really well, they upgrade it, the rules of the internet change and you have to continually go back to square one if you want to compete.

It's exhausting at our age!

Oh Dianne...Mia is so precious. I know that she will get all the love she needs to adjust by being with you. You are a gentle heart and I am sure she feels your love for her. Give her and Siren some purrs and kisses from me. =^..^=

I love the slideshow and the captions, poor Siren looks like he really wants to be friends with her. Time will take care of things.

Hugs,
Kimmie

Lisa - we're really not old but it sure feels that way. LOL
as usual I took on too much at once.

Kimmie - I have given the Mi/Si comedy duo your hugs and kisses. Siren does want to be friends! I hope Mia mellows :)

lol @ why, why!? OMG...poor thing.

Having been a cat owner all my life, I bet the cat's not deaf. Just sayin' ;)
