Creative Photography: Creature Feature

Many of you know about my Web Worm incident, which has been dealt with thank goodness. A few nights ago I couldn't sleep and as I flicked through the 800 channels of nothing on I came upon this old creature movie. I was just about to move on when little glowing orbs started falling from the sky, coming to rest in trees throughout the backyards of some sleepy town. Everything about the scene reminded me of my web worms so I went back and edited one of the shots.

All I've done is crop the shot so the house and fence are even more angled looking. I cropped out most of the pretty blue sky since it doesn't lend itself to ominous and finally I blurred everything around the web worm web. The glow from the web is exactly how it looked the day I discovered it.

Please visit CREATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY to see some really wonderful photography and consider joining in.

Speaking of creative I'd like to invite you all to check out two more creative outlets.

WORDZZLE is a weekly word game where we make up stories using a list of pre-determined words.

PORTRAIT OF WORDS is a new writing challenge so check it out and get in on the ground floor.

Pictures and words. What could possibly be better?

Just the words "web worm" make me shudder. I opened up my compost heap the other day and found millions of worms but somehow they were nice worms...funny!

oooooooooh .... scary ...

:-Daryl

Dianne said...

cg - they were the worms you know! lol
they were there at your compost's invitation rather than hanging over your head - I get it!

daryl - cool! that's what I was going for :)

Those web worms are sooo creepy. The big beautiful tree across the street has a bunch of them and one of my bushes has them. I asked the guy who does my lawn to cut them off and he said he would but so far it hasn't happened. Very ominous picture.... now you just have to write the script for the movie... The Invasion of the Web Worms... weird wiggly creatures from another planet taking over the trees....

Oooooh, creeeepy... Just like from a horror movie :o)

Oh cool! But I'm trying to go to the Portrait of Words, and I'm having some trouble with the link. Help! ;)

I am reminded of the War Between The Worlds...that was also in Jersey, wasn't it?

I can almost hear Orson Welles narrating this shot!

Perhaps I'll be the next Orson Wells - how cool would that be
"Neighbors do NOT go into the yard. Bring in the pets. Do you see the glowy orbs!?"

Looks like some sort of dragon poking its nose through the trees. I see nostrils and teeth and neither of them look friendly!

Also, thanks for the plug for Portrait of Words. I'm excited to see so many people showing interest in joining in on the challenge. I just sat down this afternoon and started putting a story together for it.

Great Job Dianne!

Good Luck! I am not playing this week. I forgot what day it is.

I like what you did with the photo. Makes it really creepy.

Damn...deleted myself...maybe the alien worms got to my brain and made the words "publish your comment" unrecognizable.

Patti said...

Dianne, Thank you for your kind words, but I can't picture myself getting that creative!

My first book is going to be non-fiction.

Schmoop said...

You always did strike me as an angular person. Yeah, I have no idea what I meant by that either. Cheers Di!!

Real Live Lesbian said...

EEEYIKKES! Those are creepy. We have 'em here, too...just luckily not in my yard! Great shot!

Anonymous said...

RLL - they really are pretty awful!!

gengen - the web was really was illuminated by the sky so I just cropped and blurred until I felt like I had a creepy image

I don't mind worms, but I don't like web worms!

Bobkat said...

Wow, that movie really inspired you didn't it? I love how the blur effect really draws the attention to the eerie glowing web.

Jo said...

Omigosh! I have never seen that before! I feel as if I have to stand up and shake out my clothes now. *heh* It's an amazing photograph!

It's like Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

You have a great blog. :-)

I'm in the same boat as cg. web worms? Ick!

Linda Murphy said...

Wow, while the web worms creep me out a bit (just being honest!) I do like your treatment of the photo. I really need to get back to Creative Photography-not sure what my deal is but I have been MIA from a lot lately!

Portrait of Words looks very intriguing!

bobbie said...

Web worms make my skin crawl. Your shot, and the story that goes with it make them sound a little more exciting. But they're still webworms. Ewwwwww.

Ivanhoe said...

Hi there! Just wanted to let you know that I have some "love" waiting for you at my place ;o)

Dianne said...

akelamalu - that's what the kid across the road said - "worms belong in the ground, not up in trees" ;)

bob-kat - thanks!! It was eerie how the movie looked so much like my backyard

jo - glad you like the blog!! thanks :)
that web gave us all the creeps for days.

tammy - thanks :)

smalltown rn - now a meteor would be cool!! Just make sure it's not wormy looking LOL

tranny - yep! there is a certain 'ickness' to it ;)

snoop - uh let's see. 2 children, a job - could that make blogging a little difficult!? I do miss your writing, your Wordzzles were great. Take a look at Portrait - it's once a month and might be more doable.

bobbie - I love the way the house and fence look. I tried versions where I dulled out the web or cropped the sky but the photo lost context. So the worms had their 15 minutes of fame!! LOL

thanks ivanhoe!!
