Election Day - Post #4 - Pics from the Polls

We had a discussion about whether or not they would let him wear the shirt. As you can see from the expression on his face he's delighted by me.

Much happier coming out of the ballot booth

I was makin' like Sarah and saying "betcha" and "wink-wink" a lot.

The family that votes together stays together.

Oh - and somewhere in all the picture taking I got to do this ...

Yeeeha! Bravo. That's one handsome man you grew... It's beautiful to see the relationship between you... and the joy in his (and your) eyes.

diane - thanks!! how does it feel to be so far away? thank goodness for the internet :)

knight - eh - I hate candids of me. doesn't give me enough time to arrange the chins, plump up the girls and suck in the rest LOL

akelamalu - thank you, I think he's pretty cool :)

raven - thanks!! Jeffrey loves to act as if nothing is mattering to him but he's like me - we do not have poker faces.
I am so glad we shared this together.

Great pics! Jeff is such a cutie. And you looks so proud coming out of the booth. I voted absentee because I thought it would be best to cast my ballot for Florida, but I do feel a little like I missed out on the magnitude of pulling/pushing the lever/button. :(

magnetbabe - I know what you mean about missing the being there, I was so choked up by seeing Barack's name there. But you had so little time between homes, it would have been worse if you had missed voting all together!!
Plus there's always 2012 ;)

Gotta agree with others here -one very handsome son you have there, Dianne.
I'm getting ready now to do my "after the vote" post -may actually go a bit Bidenish on it but if you saw my pre-vote post, it might possibly be the shortest post -very "un-bidenish" -I've ever done! LOL
I didn't take any pics inside our polling place. Wasn't sure if they would allow that and I really didn't want to make a bunch of waves with the workers there since all of 'em know me -all too well maybe.

You did it! And you have a proof, too :o)
P.S.: Yes, Jeff is one handsome man ;o)

I might be from far away from where I grew up and living next door in Canada, but watching and listening to you all today makes me feel like I did on the momentous day in May 1994 when I voted for Nelson Mandela in the first Democratic elections in my home of South Africa. I'm crying as I type, but it's all in happiness, filled with hope and memories.

Oh, you should have seen the lines all over the place this morning here. Everyone all dressed up in their little suits and sipping their Starbucks and yukkin' about how everyone in Ohio already got to vote five times already... It was an absolute ZOO. I was very underdressed.

There weren't even places to do your vote in private, unless you wanted to wait half an hour for the little cardboard cubby. And, the line is right NEXT TO the cardboard cubby and everyone is taller than that, so in short it was IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE A PRIVATE VOTE.

On the way home, I was telling my husband D that I voted "for" this and "against" that. He goes, I know you did... and that freaked me out for a bit how he could be so psychic and all that weird stuff till I realized DUH, he probably just glanced over and read every bubble I shaded in!! Him, and about 500 of my closest friends, right...

You get curtains???

Wonderful post! Your right the family that votes together stays together! I love that you took a picture of your ballot! Wish I had thought to do that! Great post!

Great pictures - you are a very handsome pair :) I love that second one of your son coming out of the booth looking so pleased with himself. Brilliant.

I still haven't dared look at any of the official news sites.

Good that you voted. I did so around Noon, and I was out in five minutes. Scheduled elections are a hallmark of our republic as opposed to other countries, despotic or not. Happy Election Day!

Great pics! I especially like the one with Jeffrey grinning and hope peeping out of his chest as he's leaving the booth. How wonderful for you both to share this moment!!!

I chose to vote real time in person too. Our polling station is at a convalescent home, so there was a choice of voting at a booth or sitting around a table family style. I chose the latter. I understand that for many years, voting was not a private affair, but more of an interactive and sometimes raucous event. My experience was pretty tame…except for the excitement I felt!

Ok Dianne, my after the election post is up and in true fashion for me, it is pretty Bidenish! (I love that term you put up about our tendencies. Hey, after all, my nickname in high school was "Iron Jaw" and I guess it still holds true even after close to 50 years.) I also linked that post to your blog too. Ta Da!

Love the pix! I wish I had a t-shirt like that!

jeni - he is a good looking kid, thanks!! I'll be over again soon :)

ivanhoe - yes I have the proof LOL
let's hope it's not needed

rob - I had to post your comment - it is exactly why I wanted to blog all day - to share feelings like that.
thank you!

pink - finally someone mentions me!! thank you - I was getting a complex ;)

mrs c - I think everyone should get curtains!!
I didn't get any Starbucks if that makes you feel better ;)

kelly - I'm going to create a collage of some election pics and frame it. I feel like such a part of history.

jackie - thank you. you get extra points for noticing me too LOL
I'm not going to watch yet - the talking heads make me crazy.

ralph - Happy Election Day to you too! I mentioned to Patti how much I like your new pic, very handsome :)

gabrielle - Jeffrey is so reserved that I didn't realize how much he was feeling until I really looked at the photos.
thanks for noticing that too :)
I'd love to have a raucous vote!! I do raucous real good

jeni - I think I may use Biden-ish all the time now. Actually I think I stole it from matt-man but he won't care
I'm going to do another 'I bring to your attention' post later so I'll remind everyone to check the links
DON'T FORGET TO ENTER CRYSTALCHICK'S EARRING GIVE AWAY

kenju - thanks!!
the shirts are still there on Obama's website.

Great photos!

I was going to take my camera in with me, but people around here are so touchy I figured they'd call the cops on me. So I chickened out.

Just a little over one hour till the first polls close. I can barely take it! LOL

Great pictures. Thanks for sharing that side of the experience with us. But be careful if you ever find yourself in Minnesota. Almost all of them use "betcha" on a regular basis, and they're predominantly liberal up there. (Though I haven't been there since Ms. Palin hit the national scene. lol)

xxoo

What wonderful pictures! You both look so happy! And yes, he is a handsome guy!

San said...

WOO HOO! Like the way that ballot's marked. Ya betcha. Wink.

Dianne said...

jay - I was only going to sneak a shot of the ballot but then one of the workers recognized me - I bring her Dad meals from the VFW. So I asked her if we could take the pics, for family history and all.

cherie - I've been to MN - it's not the same as Sarah LOL

bobbie - we were happy, thanks :)
now I'm a nervous wreck LOL

san - and I even studied and knew what I was doing and everything - imagine that

Grrrr there were signs at my early voting site that said "no recording devices allowed" so I couldn't get any pictures like that. :( I took a picture of my free cup of coffee today, though...

Karen said...

I thought it was illegal to take photos IN a polling center...well in NJ at least. The news folks can take photos only because they only take photos of political figures and workers.

I am glad you got away with it because they are great photos.

Dianne said...

kerry - my intention was to only sneak a shot of the ballot - w/out flash

karen - your new pic looks great!!
I thought so too but no one including the other voters said a word. I even showed one shot to a woman and told her I'd remove it since she was half in it, she laughed and said she didn't care. I took shots of the workers but I would never post a pic w/out a person's permission so those are for my album.

You're beautiful, Ms. Di! And your son is one good looking young man!

Peace & love,

pagan - thanks!! I did feel beautiful today. Even 'the girls' felt perkier ;)
and Jeff has the best of all his ancestors in him - he is quite a creation :)

Thanks for sending me the link for this post, Dianne! Great photos of both you and your son. How wonderful you got to vote together!

What a ride, eh?

Now that the campaigning is done and we have our President Obama, come January, the real work begins. :)

lisa - could not think of a better person to share with.
I'm ready for January!!

LOLOLOL, Dianne! What fantastic pictures! I voted early and it didn't even occur to me to take pictures, but - why the HELL NOT???
It was truly one momentous occasion - one momentous day, wasn't it?
Thanks sooooo much for the email! My computer was overhauled a couple of months ago and I didn't have your blog site in my favorites anymore.
It HAS been too long. Talk to you again soon...

OMG! I have been living in a black hole at work and not checking blogs until now (other than the WOOHOO!! comment I posted election night when WE DID IT!).

What great photos! So so so so so happy to see YOU! :) I might save it for future reference.

Oh - and I called your phone on election night and got a message that it was not correct....:(
