A fabulous and amazing night!!

But dare I say I didn't like that dress Michelle had on? It wasn't very flattering.

american in norway - it is a great idea!! diane and I were e-mailing each other like crazy women working on it, she's the best!
I'm hugging right back :)

deborah - I almost forgot what being inspired feels like!

kenju - oh what a night indeed!
you may dare say whatever you like here ;)
I'm not a fan of the dress either BUT I love that Michele looks like a real woman. She wears sensible shoes cause she's so tall and her - uh - back view is a bit broad and her face moves when she speaks and smiles.
I was terrified that our next first lady would be a 'social skeleton' who OD'd on botox
am I being catty? oh well

doggy - it is sweet indeed :)
hope to see ya around more - it IS a new day

pink - yes we did!!

lily - all across the world children are waking up to that photo and for the first time they are seeing a family that looks just like them - a family on its way to the White House. It is a powerful image. thanks for coming by :)

Yes, it is good to an American again!

Wahoo!

Smiles here too and some tears of deep emotion. And some exhaustion. I've been on anxiety and political overdrive for so long that now that the adrenalin rush is over, I'm also just kind of tired... and happy, very, very, very very happy.

Oooooooo Baby, how I have longed to hear you scream my name. My day is complete. Cheers Di!!

It's an amazing day!!!!!!!

andrea - and to think of all the crap Michele Obama - First Lady Obama! - took when said pretty much the same thing. The thing we were all thinking. Well - the slurs against her clearly didn't work and that makes me proud of Americans.

raven - I know exactly what you mean :)
I feel like I was on a party binge all night LOL
Am I too old for hope? LOL - don't worry I'm not.
thank you Raven for all the many many months of incredible posts, of meticulous research, of deep felt patriotism. I hope you know what a role model you were, and are, for those of us who get emotional (and bitchy) too quickly.

matt-man - ya know - the big 'O' doesn't just stand for Obama - or Oprah.
My neighbors asked me to close the windows ;)

scary mommy - it is, it is!!

Last night after they made the announcement I ran out the house and downtown to meet my best friend. I listened to McCain while my cab driver celebrated with me and then I watched Obama's speech in a packed but silent bar in the lower east side. My friend looked at me with tears starting to show in her eyes and at the same time we both say "Is this real?" This isn't a dream is it? Don't wake me up if it is.

Natalie said...

Sorry I checked out of bloggy land early. Once I got home from work, I set down my computer and parked myself in front of the TV til 2 am. I'm mentally and emotionally exhausted, and horribly hungover. But smiling. We did it.

Dianne said...

knight - I'm so glad you shared the moment with your best friend. I was wondering if you were home alone. Had it not been for all of you I would have lost my mind last night :)
It's a good day kiddo

magnetbabe - I literally ache from celebratory stress LOL
Siren and Mia had a long night too - every time they settled down I started 'woo-hooing' again. When they called Ohio poor Mia fell off the sofa.
We did it, yes we did!!
Hugs Auntie Babe.

It's been raining so much here I have a lake in my back yard, but this morning the sun was shining and all of the raindrops look like diamonds on the trees....it IS a beautiful day! Gulp.

That's great! I'm glad the one you wanted to win won. I've never seen a picture of his family before, beautiful children he has.

Kitty said...

Thanks, Dianne. It was fun keeping up with your posts and checking out others' links.
No problem linking to me - I need more traffic. Thank you for that too and your kind words.

Dianne said...

shelly - now you're making me gulp too :)
I am never more than a moment from tears

daryl - funny you mention clutching hands. my jaw is killing me from clenching and my neck and shoulders are sore for sitting straight as a board holding my breath. I did my fair share of hand clutching too ;)
We did do it!! How cool are we!?

tammy - they are a lovely family. the little one is quite the character. during the convention she kept interrupting a via satellite speech of Obama's to say 'I love you Daddy' and 'what city are you in?'
we haven't had a young family in the White House in so long, it will be wonderful.
thanks for sharing the moment :)

G in Berlin said...

It's funny- I actually thought that was a beautiful dress and I am going to snag this photo from you. It looked better on her live, I think, than still. But I looked at all 4 of them last night, how attractive and carefully chosen the clothes were to coordinate, nad thought: What real people. What a nice dress. Thank the heavens this isn't psycho Barbie. What a great role model this family is. I am so proud and happy that my girls will be able to look at the family in the White House and see a family like ours.

Dianne
Thanks for posting that picture of the *First Family*.
Didn't you just love it in his speech when *Daddy* told the girls that they would be getting a puppy in the Whitehouse?

Bear((( )))

Anonymous said...

My sleep deprivation told me it was real... but even then I still can't quite believe it. I refused to believe it was possible until it happened.

Dianne said...

g in berlin - I feel the same way about having them in the White House. A real family of real people. And I did take note of the color coordination LOL
it made me think of fireworks, beautiful fireworks.

bear - aren't they something to see!!
and I loved when he mentioned the puppy
and I cried when he mentioned his Grandmother.

tqe - I woke up after only about 2 hours sleep feeling strange. And then I realized I was happy and hopeful LOL
It is a good day!!

My BFF called me first thing this morning and we both yelled YAY! (She lives in NC). It is a great day, and not just because "we" won. It's a great day for our country, that we'll be going in a wonderful new direction!

Peace - D

It was fun sharing the excitement with you yesterday.

Although I had my reservations about Obama early on in the race I did eventually decide he was the best choice for the job. After watching his acceptance speech I was absolutely sure he was the right choice!

Now maybe we could offer "W" a golden parachute and get his sorry butt out of there a little sooner?

Jay said...

I'm still kind of in shock. I think I didn't really believe it would happen.

Again, thanks for the link to my post Dianne. It's a great day indeed.

I had a surreal day. Some tried to steal my sense of achievement.

But I rallied. We did do this.

So - I'm an Obama supporter. An Obamamama if you will. And yet I know that poor Obama is bound to disappoint. No man (no matter how good looking he may be!) can live up to the huge expectations both domestically and abroad. He's still a human being.

And yet I woke up this morning feeling optimistic. And happy. And hopeful about the future of this country.

Yes, we can!

(PS - Am I the only one who noticed this is the same slogan as Bob the Builder?)

gabrielle said...

I too am happy and hopeful.

I wasn’t going to allow myself to feel much of anything until it was official.

Last night, we went to hear Dylan perform at the University of Minnesota. The whole experience was surreal. His voice now gravelly with age and hard living. Shape shifter that he is, he has reinvented himself once again. But the strains of The times are a Changing were unmistakable. The hall suddenly went silent. It was truly a sacred moment. We emerged into the electric night air. There was a sense of euphoria . People were dancing in the streets. Many, young, wide eyed, bursting with passion and vision, the same age that I was when I first listened to Dylan.

Obama in his acceptance speech spoke of the arc of history. The
White House was built by slaves. “The moral arc of the universe is long but it bends toward justice." MLK , Atlanta, 1967. Indeed.

Obama invoked Lincoln last night. “We are not enemies but friends. Though passions may have strained our bonds of affection.” Obama, much like Lincoln, has both a generosity of spirit and a political pragmatism. I do believe that we now can begin to heal the wounds of our nation together.

Thank you for your “community organizing” skills and for bringing us all together. It has truly been an amazing journey.

dr john - :)

ralph - do you ever watch Craig Ferguson, he's on quite late. He said some great things tonite - I'm hoping it will be on Youtube

RLL - I hope this feeling lasts for a bit :)

queen size funny bone - I know! People are already bitching about his choice of Chief of Staff, of course the press is insinuating crap. Good heavens it doesn't take long. But we need to keep moving forward. Maybe we'll both see better healthcare one day :)

riverpoet - the people in NC should be very proud of themselves for rejecting Dole's hateful nonsense. It was my 2nd favorite victory of the night :)

jeff - it was fun, thank you. I thought his speech was wonderful! and I felt that McCain delivered a gracious speech as well.

jay - me too!! I absolutely thought I would not see this. I was denied apartments because of Jeff's color. My ex and I were chased off the road in SC. My son was chased out of a pizza place by teens screaming nigger. Just 25 years ago. I had my doubts about this country's ability to take sich a bold step! I am proud to be proven wrong.
thanks Jay for being part of yesterday. and sharing a pizza ;)
and all your updates.

spartacus - my pleasure, your posts are always worth reading.

travis - me too! I have actually thought of you many times today. I am an emotional and outspoken person and I have seen a few blogs/comments today - plus my neighbors!! and I have wanted to pull out hearts with a tweezer BUT I am trying to build unity. :)

tranny - is Bob the Builder related to Joe the Plumber? I agree that expectations need to be managed and I think he tried to explain that in his speech. At the same time he needs to inspire and motivate. Tricky!!
So you think he's handsome too!? My friends don't get it. I think he is very handsome but he's a bit skinny :)

gabrielle - I have printed out your comment to save. It is so beautiful. thank you.

Well done America! :)

Trannyhead, I had Bob the Builder's theme song going round my head All the Dang Day yesterday!

Dianne - handsome but skinny, that's what I think too :) With the plus point that he doesn't have a voice that sounds like fingernails on a chalk board (or at least has the same effect!).

Dianne said...

akelamalu - well done indeed, I am so proud of us!!

jackie - I noticed something new - he looks heavier with his suit jacket off - isn't that odd. I love his voice. How nice to once again have a leader who speaks English. It's been 'moron as a second language' for 8 years ;)
