Sometime they'll give a war and nobody will come.

Very nice gathering of Memorial Day photos to remind us all of the true meaning of this day. Blessings to you and yours.

Great photos. As much as I love a good sale when I need something, it always irks me to see commerce driven by a holiday that should be taken with so much more reverence.

Those photos make my heart wrench - just as it did yesterday when on TV I saw the latest group from Ft. Bragg getting ready to leave. Seeing the wives, parents and children was heart-breaking.

I remember all too clearly sending my husband off to Vietnam and wondering if I would ever see him again and was thankful that I was pregnant! This day is most definitely about more than sales and BBQ, particularly in the world we live in today. Have a good day, Dianne!

Homecoming, the best part of war. As another said, if only they could all come home.
It is those who didn't that we honor today, at the cemetaries.
And yet they would tell you that what they fought for was our freedom and our American way of life. That way of life depends on capitalism. So honor, yes, but shop and buy, I guess so too. You just won't find me at the mall.

Bring 'em home.

Terrific pics. And quote. I loathe wars.

Ah, if only.

Thank you for this post to remind people what it's really all about; I've been pushing it all weekend but not sure if it did any good or not. I can only hope that even one person said "Oh yea, it's a lot more than the official start of summer!" Sheesh.

It's hard to forget what it's really about here what with all the men wandering around in various uniforms. I saw people buying drinks for many a solider and sailor this weekend.

Wonderful photos -- even way past the holiday, the message never goes out of style.

We're on the road and today's the first evening I've had time and a good connection at the same time. Caught up on three or four of your posts -- the midia whores one was priceless. Loved it.
