A Girl From Plainfield

I have enjoyed Melissa McCarthy’s work since she played Sookie, best friend of the main character and funny, sweet, often neurotic chef, on Gilmore Girls

Last year CBS introduced a sitcom called Mike and Molly; the adventures of two overweight people who meet at an Overeater's support group and pursue a relationship. Melissa was back on TV.

Melissa's Molly is adorable and strong and funny and sweet and often fearless.

I imagine being fearless is necessary to have a career in show business. Especially for women. Especially for larger women.

As my Nana used to say - We always cheer for the chubby girl.

Last night the chubby girl heard lots of cheers - Melissa won an Emmy for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

"I'm from Plainfield, Illinois, and I'm standing here and it's kind of amazing."

All of the nominees in this category are spectacular but I am so very pleased that Melissa won.

Being someone who doesn't watch TV, I've never see Gilmore Girls or Mike and Molly, but have heard from many people that they're great shows.

And you're so right, Dianne...

"I magine being fearless is necessary to have a career in show business. Especially for women. Especially for larger women."

Women in show business have it MUCH harder than men. And think that stinks. Men have a much easier time prolonging their careers. Where as women, the minute they turn 40, are made to feel that they're old and no longer needed. This is why so many women in show business are getting facelifts. Because the majority of women's roles are written for youth. That's why I admire people like Susan Sarandon who stays as she is, and STILL manages to get work.

And this why I LOVE to hear things like Melissa winning an Emmy for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

You GO, Melissa!

Woot! Woot! Woot!

Hope you had a great day, dearest lady!

X to you and the gang!

I heard about this on the radio today, how all of the nominees went up on stage, held hands like beauty contestants, and the winner got the crown and roses. I did not know the name of the winner. Now I see who she is. Yes, good for her! And thanks for showing me.

So *that's* why she looks so familiar. *face palm* That was driving me crazy...

I've never seen either show, but you are absolutely correct about fearlessness. Melissa rocks--and so do you!

I thought it was so cute the way they presented it. At first it seemed like Amy was hamming it up by going on stage and just the mention of her nomination but as it became clear what they were doing, I realized they were all so good-natured about the win, no matter who it went to. It was a fine moment.

I didn't watch the Emmy Awards Show but I do watch -and like very much -Mike and Molly. So, I'm really happy to learn she won the Emmy. However, I have a question now here -does anyone know what night and what time Mike and Molly will be on this year? It wasn't on tonight at 9:30 -the regular time slot for it. Hope to hell she didn't win an Emmy and CBS being stupid and cancelling the show!

Didn't know about her other work but I loved her in The Gilmore Girls. I'll keep an eye out.

I also have never watched the show, and I wondered who she is. Now I know, thanks so much. And congratulations to her.

NOW I know where I knew her from... she's wonderful .. she should stick to acting, I read she helped design the dress she wore .. she's way to young to dress like Kate Smith.

I've seen the show a couple of times and liked it well enough. Have to confess I was rooting for Amy Poehler, though. I'm a big Parks & Recreation fan.

I've never seen either of those shows. But since I'm a chubby girl... I say, BRAVO Melissa! You go girl. :)

I've never see Gilmore Girls or Mike and Molly either. If it ever comes on here, I'll give it a whirl.

I haven't seen Mike & Molly, but I loved her in Gilmore Girls and anything else I have seen her in. Thanks for letting us know she won, I believe she deserved it.

I too have loved Melissa since her Sookie days... She was also fabulous in Bride's Maids!

I am thrilled she won the Emmy :-)

The rest of the Prime Time Emmys rather stunk in my own humble opinion but this was a moment to share and to enjoy. Good for Melissa and for all of us chubby chicks out here that sometimes think we don't matter. We do! We do!

She truly is brilliant! The cast of Mike & Molly is genius but seeing her in "Bridesmaids" let me know the girl has got IT!
