A Matter of National Importance

The absurd - ridiculous - dysfunctional (not in a fun way) - mass of pathetic humanity that is our Congress has decided to rally together on an issue of monumental importance

No, they're not saving us from Nautical Nazis.

They are outraged, outraged I tell you!!, by the fact that these Olympic uniforms for our fine young corporate sponsored professional NBA player type athletes are Made in China.

Iconic American products are being made in China? Whoa Nellie. Stop the presses. The shock, the horror, the tragedy.

Leaders from both sides of the aisle are speaking out together

The Democrats are even using their outside voices on this one. I guess they figure they can speak out since the big, fat, rich bullies on the Republican side will agree with them on this one and not question their patriotism or sexuality.

It's amazing that any of them have any strength left after trying to knock down the Affordable Care Act for the 33rd time. Then again they only have 42 work days scheduled between today and the end of the year.

Might as well spend it on something important.

I wonder how this rose to importance, too. Has anybody ever noticed how insular and jingoistic we are becoming? This is actually scary.

Amen, and Amen again. Hmmm, I wonder what other iconic things are being made in China - without much uproar. Probably MANY! Great post. Keep em coming. Cheers Lady Di!!

I wouldn't be surprised to learn that our lot have done the same. :(

Even TheDonald has chimed in on it. Says we should burn them...Ironically his line of clothing are also made in China... "Look for the Union Label."

Dear God in Heaven! I guess we have to laugh because otherwise we'd just want to go jump off a bridge...the perfect idiocy of Congress never fails to astound.

Well, not sure that my little ol' comment will be much compared to that of Anonymous above me and their rant on boycotting women but I guess I'll give it the old US of A try!

First though, someone needs to tell me why it's okay to buy everything else made in China but when it comes to probably overpriced Olympic uniforms it's not? I don't know, call me un-American if you must but I kind of lost interest in the Olympics when it became open to professional athletes rather than those who didn't make the big bucks and competed for the sport of it. Now it's just pretty much a waste of time and I doubt I'll be watching any of it - including the parade of athletes and their uniforms no matter where they were made!

It would be nice if we had more AMERICAN clothing manufacturers. Remember "look for the union label" song mentioned above. Yeah. You can't find it! :)

BUT. Good grief man. More important things.

Notice that it is still not illegal to lock children in closets or paddle them in public schools in 21 states??? Mine is one of them. No one really cares about the little people, kids or workers.

I'm constantly amazed at how goddamn stupid our representatives are and how lacking in morals, ethics, common sense, economic sense, humanity, etc., they are!

Just about everything is made in China or some other country because these clowns made it financially easier for companies to produce their products elsewhere!

But like you say, this issue is NOT important, and has nothing to do with anything.

i don't think there's much hope.

i saw this article on yahoo and being made in china and then the costs of the entire uniform is just ridiculous to me. my concern is more about how much money we waste on "entertainment" and pleasure when basic needs are not being take care of.

While I also think that the American uniforms being made in China is absurd, I do think our elected officials have more important things to worry about.

But isn't that they way they always do things? Try to distract us with the idiotic so we won't focus on the problems that really are effecting our lives. It may work for some but you nailed it, Dianne!

Well, I'll be honest with you---I'm glad they can agree on something!! (lol)

I must say I think the USA Olympic Uniforms are really really UGLY! Especially the Hat. There is sometghing strange about the whole look---it doesn't feel "American" to me.....So, Sue Me!

I'm glad to see it's not just the UK that's full of political twats. I do agree with Naomi, I don't think the American uniforms look that American, but having seen the British uniforms that look dreadful, maybe this is the year of crappy Olympic Outfits.

I am not surprised. It really is so typical.

Yep, leave it to the politicians to rally behind a cause du jour instead of buckling down and doing some real damn work.

Why do we keep voting these people in?
