I ventured out this morning on my last round of hurricane errands.
After picking up more groceries and filling the tank I headed over to Firefighter's Park in Union Beach, NJ which faces Raritan Bay.
I live 2.8 miles inland from the shore and it's amazing what a difference that small distance makes. The wind was rocking the car, it was difficult to open the door and there were tree branches all over the road.
The wind was pushing in from the water.
The water was high and every time the wind blew the foam rushed up over the wooden piling. It stung my face.
This house was being reinforced. It faces the bay. I love how the statue seems oblivious to the work going on behind her.
I have no idea where flying watermelon came from. Beware of flying fruit folks!
The town has these earth movers strategically placed near all the spots off Route 36 that normally flood.
Stay Safe Everybody.

Very scary, Dianne, and with the added problem of flying fruit, it sounds like Sandy is a hurricane with a mind of her own.

You know I have never waned to experience a hurricane. I hope that you don't have too rough a time. I sometimes wonder what it was like before we had the National Weather Service to warn us about these things. Stay safe.. Hugs (and from Molly and Cassie also)
Hunker down and stay safe!
Dianne, stay safe down there! We will be praying for you all. Keep us posted on how you are doing.
It does sound scary!! But your area does seem to be prepared!! Do stay safe, I'll be thinking of you and Hope!! Hugs to you both!!
This sucks..and you guys have been hit before..we are going to get some too.. 5 inches of rain which will be a problem for our yard..but nothing like you guys...is Mother Nature angry at us..she certainly has reason to be....Michelle
I wonder where the heck the flying watermelon came from! I'm hoping that Sandy comes and goes without any loss of life. Stay warm and dry!
You're going to be out in the middle of Sandy taking pictures aren't you?
Be safe, Dianne, you and all your family.
We have a big screen TV at work, so I was briefly watching the weather report on and off all afternoon.
WOW...I can't believe the water in that fourth photo down. That is SOME wind!
I've been through several of these big hurricanes living in Florida, so I'm prepared.
You take care, dear lady. Stay safe and warm.
Sending ya good vibes...
((((( You )))))
X to you and the gang!
Hunker down and stay safe, my friend! Will be thinking of you.
Hugs from Ohio,
I.
Frightening! I've been hearing some pretty horrible things about this storm. Stay safe, and baton down the hatches! ...and keep up updated!
I've been a bit uptight all day over the impending weather. We're as prepared as we can be though.
Stay safe, Dianne.
We'll be following the storm news and hoping for the best. Many of us have lots of blog friends in the storm's path, and I have some family too.
Stay safe!!!
Stay safe! Hope you don't have any damage.
Sounds like you're ready and have battened down your own hatches. I'll add my "stay safe" wishes to everyone else's. *hugs*
Seeing plywood places over windows reminds me of a lot. Beware of storm surges , though! Take care!
Ditto on the stay safe...and hoping all the predictions don't materialize.
Stay safe Dianne, I'll be thinking of you.
I hope all is well with you, Dianne. Be safe!
I was thinking of you and your family today - stay safe, and hope Sandy disappears quickly!
I hope Sandy will have lost most of her power by the time she makes landfall. Keep safe, keep warm.
maybe Gallagher was nearby
here its all plain rain and wind .. la la la la
Scary -- somehow your pictures and post make it seem more real, because I feel like I know you, than everything I've read and heard on the news. Take care, be safe!
Watermelon? You must have been visiting the seedy side of town.
Stay safe, dear Di and family.
Scary looking, especially that flying fruit. Hope you are well prepared for the worst.
What great photos! I'm just glad you made it home safely! Sheesh!
