After picking up more groceries and filling the tank I headed over to Firefighter's Park in Union Beach, NJ which faces Raritan Bay.
I live 2.8 miles inland from the shore and it's amazing what a difference that small distance makes. The wind was rocking the car, it was difficult to open the door and there were tree branches all over the road.
The wind was pushing in from the water.
The water was high and every time the wind blew the foam rushed up over the wooden piling. It stung my face.
This house was being reinforced. It faces the bay. I love how the statue seems oblivious to the work going on behind her.
I have no idea where flying watermelon came from. Beware of flying fruit folks!
The town has these earth movers strategically placed near all the spots off Route 36 that normally flood.

You know I have never waned to experience a hurricane. I hope that you don't have too rough a time. I sometimes wonder what it was like before we had the National Weather Service to warn us about these things. Stay safe.. Hugs (and from Molly and Cassie also)

This sucks..and you guys have been hit before..we are going to get some too.. 5 inches of rain which will be a problem for our yard..but nothing like you guys...is Mother Nature angry at us..she certainly has reason to be....Michelle

We have a big screen TV at work, so I was briefly watching the weather report on and off all afternoon.
WOW...I can't believe the water in that fourth photo down. That is SOME wind!
I've been through several of these big hurricanes living in Florida, so I'm prepared.

Frightening! I've been hearing some pretty horrible things about this storm. Stay safe, and baton down the hatches! ...and keep up updated!
I've been a bit uptight all day over the impending weather. We're as prepared as we can be though.
