Rapid deterioration appears to be the phrase of the day on TV news.
I've been deteriorating faster and faster for years so they don't scare me.
I have no photos for you all. I do have a graph that shows the tide levels for the spot nearest to where I took the photos in the last post.
You can see how much higher than normal it was yesterday and then even more so at 4:30 PM today. The surge expected tonight is an additional 2 or 3 feet making it a surge of 10 or 11 feet.
All the roads I was on yesterday are under water right now.
My hurricane duty thus far has been to hold power cords so that we could create a network of key outlets from our house and the neighbor's house to our generator. I had to hold on to the fence while standing there and I'm not light.
The other thing I've been doing is hanging with Hope whenever her Mom and Dad need to run outside and deal with something.
So far the two biggest issues are
A tree in the back facing Hope's bedroom and my bedroom below her is listing toward the house. It's a healthy tree and so far we've been able to pull down the big limbs that were cracked. I've been good to the trees so I have asked her to please hang on.
A large patch of our siding is loose. My son and his wife, with the wonderful help of a neighbor, were able to get some large nails in there so it didn't pull down the rest.
All the other stuff is small potatoes.
I admit to being nervous. I have had a headache and a lump in my throat all day. The sound of the wind - 70 mph gusts - is horrid.
So far we have kept power although the flickering is one more tug on my nerves.
I am grateful to the JCP&L workers who were down the road earlier today securing lines and bolting down a conduit box.
Stay snug kids

Thanks for the up-date - Stay safe.
It does sound terrifying and my thoughts are with you and Hope!! Stay safe! Wish I could do more than send big hugs!!
Glad to hear you're hanging in there Dianne! I've been thinking of you.
I know how frightening the sound of the wind is, having experienced 100+ mph winds on a fairly regular basis here on the mountain. It sounds (and feels) as if the entire house is going to blow away.
How is Hope dealing with it all?
Keeping fingers crossed and sending good thoughts for you and yours!
I've been thinking about you and your family (especially Hope, I must admit) and praying you are all safe and well.

Thanks for posting. I have been thinking about all of my east coast friends. I've been keeping track of my niece in Salem, Mass via Facebook. Her parents, my brother and sister-in-law are now out of power in Chemlsford, Mass.
Hang on!
I have little doubt your tree will return the love by staying strong. Of course it would still be wise if you and Hope slept on the other side of your house for tonight. Frank is outside talking to our trees, as I type. The wind has picked up here.. though nothing like there. Stay safe, my sweet friend. And thank you for updating.
Seeing a post here is a good thing.
We have a big tree that keeps swinging towards my bedroom. We are going to sleep in the living room with kids and dogs. Wishing you luck, hope the tree got your message.
Love,
Bhavana
Stay safe. I'm keeping y'all in my thoughts. Hurricanes SUCK! (((hugs)))
The power down here only went out long enough that I had to reset the computer earlier. It's been flickering since then. A weird green flash in the sky tonight made us think the power was definitely going out but we're still okay. Had some water in the basement, but hubby got the shop vac out and that's taking care of it. The wind has been the worst thing. I took the dogs out back tonight and was very much in awe of it. Hang on trees, Sandy will be leaving soon.
Glad you're all okay.
Scary, but fascinating. We on the west coast are closely watching this storm and hoping for the best. Be sure to stay dry and stay put! Can't have you wandering off into the storm now.
Thinking of you. Hang in there!

So glad you were able to post, my dear...Thinking of you and yours in this horrific storm...! Be Safe, my dear Dianne---And Hug HOPE really close, for me, too....
Sending Hugs to you all....
(((((((HUGS)))))))
Thanks for the update Dianne - thinking of you all x
Stay safe! I hope you get through this think okay!
Best wishes!
Hope you're still staying snug and that you have no problems doing that! We were mainly concerned about how things would go last night and overnite what with the high winds predicted but other than some kind of leak that is someplace apparently in our chimney and fireplace, no problems here! Yay, yay! No power outages meant to kids waking up, terrified of the blackness so therefore, no meltdowns. And regardless of the weather or other conditions, a "no meltdown" situation is always a very good thing! Hope things do begin to dry up as quickly as possible but that doesn't look like it will happen till perhaps the weekend! Peace.
Hoping you are safe there Dianne. Thinking of you. Gin
So glad to hear you are all hanging in there. It's so scary! By now the worst should be past, I'm hoping anyway. The fact that you were able to post anything at all is a good sign! :-)
Oh crap! I thought about you yesterday and hoped you were OK. We've been through several hurricanes and they're no fun! Sure hope you're still OK this morning.
It's all over but the crying' now. Been through plenty of hurricanes myself. It's scary and awesome watching those trees thrash around in those high winds. The last one that came through here sent a tree through my back neighbor's roof.
Hope you got through this without any severe damage or power outages, Dianne!
I was so thinking of you all day yesterday, watching the Weather Channel.
We got a lot of cold, gusty wind and some rain, but nothing too bad. And thank god we didn't lose power.
(((((( You )))))
Hope all is well, dear lady!
X to you and the gang!
It must be terrifying to be in the midst of it, it's frightening just watching it on TV here! Stay safe and I pray it will all be over soon for you all. x
I've been thinking of you all through this and will continue to do so. *hugs*
Thinking about you all! Hope you remain safe! I know NJ flooded, not sue how far from you.
Big hugs from Ohio,
I.
That is really a frightening situation. I'm glad you are physically safe.
What craziness with the weather, huh? The devastation is horrible and the reasons for climate change are so depressing.
Thanks for the update and glad to hear you are all doing alright.
been thinking of you .. i had a brilliant idea ... if several people with cars who also have generators would get together ... they could pool the gas in the cars to put in the generators .. leaving at least 1 car with a full tank to go out and get more gas to share with the others ....
You're too quiet for too long. Thinking best thoughts for you and yours. And sending hugs.
Been thinking about you while seeing the Storm info on the news ...
Hope you're ok :-)
Definitely too quiet. Thinking of you and your family and hoping for the best. . .
Been thinking of you!!! Hope you and your family are safe. Hugs
I'm sure you have many more important things to do than post on a blog, but I wanted to let you know that you've been in our hearts and minds these past few days and we hope that you did not suffer too much damage. What a terrible mess Sandy left!
I have a bad feeling that you are without electricity and I'm sure you have more important things to do right now than this but I want to leave this note so that when you come back you'll know we're thinking of you. Oh I so hope you are all OK and warm and recovery is as fast as possible. It is terrible to see the devastation.
Thinking of you and hoping you and your family are safe and well!
