The bay is very unusually high in spots. I have read that storm related changes to the underwater topography along with sunken debris is causing this issue.
One hard hit restaurant put up new fencing to protect people from the rubble and that fence has since been knocked down by new flooding.
The business across the road can't get all the debris cleared yet.
A brighter spot up the road - Mike is rebuilding. Since 1961 Mike's Subs was a small fishing shack like building. Great food and great people. He was wiped out by Sandy.
The new shop is up off street level. A lot of folks are looking forward to the grand re-opening.
Further down, away from the business district the bay looks rough and bits and pieces of destroyed piers hang about.
As I headed back home I was rerouted by a road crew who were prepping to restore some underground systems.

So sad to see the damage still, but good to see signs of life and rebuilding too. Hope Mike's (and the other businesses) are up and running and making the neighbourhood alive again soon.
I am always happy to see that progress is being made in your part of the world. Let's hope that the coming spring (wait, it's officially here) will bring lots of rebuilding efforts. I look forward to seeing the progress through your post. Don't forget a couple pictures of you and Hope, though. :-)
It is so sad to see the damage, a reminder. But the steps of progress look hopeful.

It's easy for those of us who don't see this every day to believe that it's done. Over. Taken care of. Forgotten. I'm glad that you bring out these reminders of the devastation every now and then. It's not over. Done. Taken care of. At least not enough. It's a process. Hugs to you and that wee beauty of yours. She gives us all Hope.
Thanks for keeping track of all of this. Sandy was one nasty storm. I remember visiting Oakland CA in 1989 (I think) to return some art from an art show I ran. The Bay Bridge had collapsed and the freeway had to be demolished to be rebuilt. It was quite a sight to walk the devestated streets. I hope your home community will return to "normal" as soon as is humanly possible. Gin
The aftermath of Sandy is truly appalling and it has to be so depressing for all of you who are so aware of the continuing damage....Good for "Mike" that he is moving forward in such a positive way....Thank you, dear Dianne, for reminding us all that Sandy may be over but all that happened in her wake, is not....You keep it real, my dear. Here's hoping the weather will give you all a real break there....!

It must be so hard to see the devastation all the time, so seeing any progress must be wonderful. I'm full of admiration for the people that are dusting themselves down and starting again.
Sometimes the hardest part is knowing where to start.

Sad news. But, at least you caught it on camera.
Again, I'm amazed by your pics. This is the sort of thing we don't see in the news. It's cool seeing the small improvements and hearing about the positive attitudes of the locals. It still saddens me to see the obvious rubble, but I know that sooner or later everyone will be back on there feet. Can't wait for that day!
