My Friend Bobbie

Bobbie died Saturday. Her youngest daughter Kitty has posted about her Mom at BOBBIE’S PLACE - ALMOST THERE

I went back almost three years and found Bobbie’s first visit to my blog. In part she commented …

Hello, Diane. Thank you for visiting my blog. I can use all the friends i can get. I love some of the elements in your layout. Could I steal one or two? I like the way you think.

I love the way Bobbie thought.

She was a friend of nature. A friend of human rights. A friend of open and progressive thought.

She was my friend.

I got to meet Bobbie this past Friday. She was all her blog persona suggested and more.

We talked about our children. Her children were there and I was honored to meet them. You could feel so much of Bobbie in them; welcoming, comforting, genuine, kind.

We talked about our mutual blog friends. She loved us all.

I know that I have posted this poem before but it feels to me that it was written for Bobbie …

I am standing by the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze
and starts for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength,
and I stand and watch
until at last she hangs like a peck of white cloud
just where the sun and sky come down to mingle with each other.

Then someone at my side says, 'There she goes!
Gone where? Gone from my sight - that is all.

She is just as large in mast and hull and spar
as she was when she left my side
and just as able to bear her load of living freight
to the places of destination.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her.

And just at the moment when someone at my side says,
'There she goes! ' ,
there are other eyes watching her coming,
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout :
'Here she comes!'

Right before my Nana died she told me that she was “ready to go” and that my Grandfather was waiting for her.

I have always thought of Bobbie and her husband Ralph as one of the great love stories.

I believe he is at the head of that chorus gladly shouting “Here She Comes”

Peaceful Journey Bobbie

I will miss you.
