The Chubby Tree

Most people know by now that I have a deep fondness for trees. They are good old souls who withstand time and weather with grace.

I have shared a couple of my favorite trees before - the flowering tree that reminds me of my old friend and neighbor in Brooklyn, the giant perfectly round tree near the grocery and the tiny sickly tree in my yard that I nursed for 7 years until she finally gave in to a terrible storm last spring.

I'd like to introduce another tree friend.

The first time I saw this tree I thought of the Queen song - "fat bottomed girls they make the rockin' world go round"

She's a chubby one.
I love her stout main trunk and her thick limbs that twist around.
It's hard to get good shots of her. She lives on a busy state route with nowhere to stop. I drive around and around the jug-handle until a red light gives me enough time and the correct position to get a few pics of her.

If you would know strength and patience, welcome the company of trees. ~Hal Borland

The UN has declared 2011 The Year of the Forests  so go hug a tree.
