Creative Photography: Is There Another Exit?

This is my photographic depiction of what the staircase at my doctor's office feels like.

It is always 100 degrees in there, the glare from double doors and double windows AND a skylight is blinding - and still they have lights on as well!

The stairs are carpeted slats so you feel as though you're going to fall through as you walk down. Walking up makes you dizzy.

The handrail is wobbly.

Please check out all the CREATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY entries and consider joining in. It's fun and all the other participants are friendly and supportive.

Great entry, Dianne. I don't think I want to go to your doctor.

And this feeling of vertigo and lack of solid workmanship only occurs at the doctor's office?

It seems that the doctor can only mend sick bodies...not buildings!

I notice that medical office building all seem to be designed and built very poorly...

When I opened your blog this morning and found myself greeted by this photo, my first thought (prior to reading your post) was that this appeared to be some kind of alien spaceship that must have bypassed Pennsylvania and landed in the New Jersey countryside.
Your subsequent explanation/description makes me think I too would not be overly happy about visiting that doctor's office. Great post, Girlfriend!

Dianne, GREAT shot!!!!!! Kenn loves the forced perspective with a wide lens, too. :D I think you have a GREAT chance to win this week! :D
Thanks for the sweet (pun intended!:D) comments on my entry. :D Have a WONDERFUL day - BE BLESSED!

bobbie - the Dr. herself is wonderful, one of the best I've ever had. She isn't too pleased with her surroundings either!

ralph - seems like a lot is built like crap these days. this particular complex was once a bunch of 2 story condos/townhouses - then a developer bought folks out and turned it into a professional complex but did very little to make it useful. There are no wheelchair ramps, the parking lot is a maze, and a few of the Drs had to move because many patients couldn't handle the stairs. There's a long waiting list for first floor suites.

jeni - cool! I like the idea of it looking like a spaceship.

thanks teach! - the color is how hot and stuffy it feels and the fisheye is my head lol

daryl - thanks!! glad you love it! it's my shrink - Lord only knows what that says LOL

bob-kat - oh wow thanks!! I was going for the nauseaus mood - it is truly one of the most obnoxious buildings on the planet.

pink dogwood - thanks!! I'm loving that everyone is 'feeling' it :)

lori - thank you! and thanks to Kenn as well!! I'm really enjoying the reactions to this one - a new thing I'm getting into - photographic depictions - I'm sure there's a real name for it. I just love trying to convey and share a feeling.

Wow! Such a cool photo. And I love your description.. I think you've caught the essence of what you describe in this picture. Sounds like these doctors want to make sure that you're not feeling well by the time you get to them. Maybe business is slow?

Bear Naked said...

That is an awesome photograph but I don't think I would be too happy visiting that place especially with the wobbly handrail.

Bear((( )))

What a dizzifying location! I would not want to have to go to a doctor in that building. No thanks.

Great photo though! Good luck in Roger's contest.

juliana said...

wow, i absolutely LOVE this photo! kind of spooky but great!

Dianne said...

patti - glad you like the photo :) Hitchcock and Twilight Zone! I love it!!

gmacomics - another vote for Twilight Zone!! Yay!! lol
I shot the staircase at evey possible angle so that I could find the right one. then I applied fisheye effect and then last - I played around with color tints until I found the one that best intensified the naturally odd light of this staircase and the stifling air.

juliana - thanks so much!!

That was awesome! I've been on some stairs like that and that picture perfectly reflects how I feel on them.

I had a doctor which I even had to stop midway up the stairs and hang my head between my knees. Not fun .

Wicked Cool!!! :D

And you say this is at your shrink's office. That's just perfect. ;)

I guess if you get through the obstical course it means that you're ready for the world. Or maybe it means that you're not. LOL :)

Wow..You certainly captured the feelings I get and I spend lots of time at a doctor's office...

holly said...

is this before or after the administration of drugs...

Linda said...

This looks like something you might see once they've injected you with a thing or two at the doctor's office and your head is spinning! Or worse yet when you're going to see the doctor because you have a wicked migraine!

Very interesting angle and that fish-eye gives it just the perfect touch of "I don't want to go there"!

RW said...

I love that effect it is just like vertigo!

Thank you for your Creative Photography submission!! :D

Dianne said...

kell - thanks! I'm so pleased I got the feeling across

matt-man - another 'Hitchcockian' - I'm going to get all full of myself!

sanni - thanks so much, I still marvel at your strawberry shot so if you say creative that makes me happy

When I first saw this photo I was like WOW! My first thought was like jeni and thought alien goggles, then I got to thinking about the Olympic swimmers and the eye goggles that they wear. It kind of looks like that. I love it and I also like the warm color you used especially after reading how hot it is in the building. Why are some doctors offices like that. You know they take blood pressures. It think this is a way they try to get the blood moving so the read is higher.

Good Luck. Thanks for stopping by.

Ivanhoe said...

Wow! Now I'm getting claustrophobic as well. Hang on to that handrail :o)

Leighann said...

Is your doctor Stephen King? Cuz that's super creepy!!

Dianne said...

pkay - I love the idea of this being the view behind Olympic swim goggles LOL
Poor Michael Phelps - he must have such a headache

Ivanhoe - yep, claustrophobia is one of the many charms of this staircase :)

leighann - your first comment since your hiatus!! Waiting for you to come back was harder than waiting for a new season of Grey's!! I love creepy and if King was my doc I'd probably be considered normal

Digital Polaroids said...

Dianne, if you didn't use a fish eye lenses for this shot, you should consider seriously changing your doctor!
