Creative Photography: Is There Another Exit?
This is my photographic depiction of what the staircase at my doctor's office feels like.
It is always 100 degrees in there, the glare from double doors and double windows AND a skylight is blinding - and still they have lights on as well!
The stairs are carpeted slats so you feel as though you're going to fall through as you walk down. Walking up makes you dizzy.
The handrail is wobbly.

Great entry, Dianne. I don't think I want to go to your doctor.
And this feeling of vertigo and lack of solid workmanship only occurs at the doctor's office?
It seems that the doctor can only mend sick bodies...not buildings!
I notice that medical office building all seem to be designed and built very poorly...
When I opened your blog this morning and found myself greeted by this photo, my first thought (prior to reading your post) was that this appeared to be some kind of alien spaceship that must have bypassed Pennsylvania and landed in the New Jersey countryside.
Your subsequent explanation/description makes me think I too would not be overly happy about visiting that doctor's office. Great post, Girlfriend!
Dianne, great fish eye view of your doctor's office. The color is great too! Good luck! Hope you win! :)
I love it .. tell me its the eye doctor and I will PIMP!
good luck!
:-Daryl
It's kinda nauseaus! Great image manipulation!
It is dizzyingly cool :)
Dianne, GREAT shot!!!!!! Kenn loves the forced perspective with a wide lens, too. :D I think you have a GREAT chance to win this week! :D
Thanks for the sweet (pun intended!:D) comments on my entry. :D Have a WONDERFUL day - BE BLESSED!
bobbie - the Dr. herself is wonderful, one of the best I've ever had. She isn't too pleased with her surroundings either!
ralph - seems like a lot is built like crap these days. this particular complex was once a bunch of 2 story condos/townhouses - then a developer bought folks out and turned it into a professional complex but did very little to make it useful. There are no wheelchair ramps, the parking lot is a maze, and a few of the Drs had to move because many patients couldn't handle the stairs. There's a long waiting list for first floor suites.
jeni - cool! I like the idea of it looking like a spaceship.
thanks teach! - the color is how hot and stuffy it feels and the fisheye is my head lol
daryl - thanks!! glad you love it! it's my shrink - Lord only knows what that says LOL
bob-kat - oh wow thanks!! I was going for the nauseaus mood - it is truly one of the most obnoxious buildings on the planet.
pink dogwood - thanks!! I'm loving that everyone is 'feeling' it :)
lori - thank you! and thanks to Kenn as well!! I'm really enjoying the reactions to this one - a new thing I'm getting into - photographic depictions - I'm sure there's a real name for it. I just love trying to convey and share a feeling.
Wow! Such a cool photo. And I love your description.. I think you've caught the essence of what you describe in this picture. Sounds like these doctors want to make sure that you're not feeling well by the time you get to them. Maybe business is slow?
That is an awesome photograph but I don't think I would be too happy visiting that place especially with the wobbly handrail.
Bear((( )))
Very Hitchcockian ...A bit of "Vertigo" there in that picture...
well done and good luck
OH and firefighters...LOL...you should peek!
I got dizzy from your description and the picture. LOL. Good job.
That picture is wild! Very cool.
raven - thanks - I had such fun trying to get the feeling - actually your word 'essence' is better - to come thru the shot.
bear - the was has so many handprints on it you can tell that no one trusts the handrail - glad you liked the photo
bond - oh I love 'Hitchcockian' - thanks so much!! made me smile. I won't peek but I may knock LOL
karen - it is an awful little place ;)
but the photo was fun to do - thanks
jay - thanks!!
What a dizzifying location! I would not want to have to go to a doctor in that building. No thanks.
Great photo though! Good luck in Roger's contest.
Hitchcockian, yes. Maybe even The Twilight Zone.
;-)
wow nice edit on this one or not edit? its a great image and reminds me of twilight zone!
really tells the whole story when you're dizzy.
wow, i absolutely LOVE this photo! kind of spooky but great!
patti - glad you like the photo :) Hitchcock and Twilight Zone! I love it!!
gmacomics - another vote for Twilight Zone!! Yay!! lol
I shot the staircase at evey possible angle so that I could find the right one. then I applied fisheye effect and then last - I played around with color tints until I found the one that best intensified the naturally odd light of this staircase and the stifling air.
juliana - thanks so much!!
That was awesome! I've been on some stairs like that and that picture perfectly reflects how I feel on them.
I had a doctor which I even had to stop midway up the stairs and hang my head between my knees. Not fun .
Wicked Cool!!! :D
And you say this is at your shrink's office. That's just perfect. ;)
I guess if you get through the obstical course it means that you're ready for the world. Or maybe it means that you're not. LOL :)
Okay, I a bit dizzy...oh my that was very hard to look at. Great effect though and the color is awesome. Now I think I will go lay down. ;-)
Good Luck Sweetie!
Hugs,
Kimmie
Wow..You certainly captured the feelings I get and I spend lots of time at a doctor's office...
is this before or after the administration of drugs...
This looks like something you might see once they've injected you with a thing or two at the doctor's office and your head is spinning! Or worse yet when you're going to see the doctor because you have a wicked migraine!
Very interesting angle and that fish-eye gives it just the perfect touch of "I don't want to go there"!
I love that effect it is just like vertigo!
Thank you for your Creative Photography submission!! :D
kell - thanks! I'm so pleased I got the feeling across
queen - I really don't know how Drs have offices that aren't easily accessible
cherie - hey girl!! I love the phrase wicked cool - thanks
kimmie - I wonder if this image could help with insomnia ;)
rambling - thanks I loved capturing the feeling
LOL Holly!!
linda - fisheye just says dizzy!!
thanks roger
Dianne!
Whew...I suddenly have vertigo...and not the U-2 kind. :D
That is really freaky! I LOVE IT!
Dianne, Thanks for checking me out and for your kind words.
Dianne, this one is really interesting.
I wonder if any of the doctor's patients actually visit him cause of dizziness :P
Wow... no drugs required. Cool.
Very creative !
That picture is so "Hitchcockian" !! Cheers Di!!
How cool is that??? That's what I call creative... great job!
Good luck!
Micheal - hold on and breathe deep, it passes ;)
love your new pic!!
tammy - I love 'freaky' - thanks!!
onangelwings - you're welcome :)
napaboaniya - all the docs on the second floor are shrinks LOL so I suppose it could be said we're all just imagining the staircase - projecting ourselves on to it LOL
quiet rage - yeah my artificial high days are behind me ;)
thank you gattina!!
matt-man - another 'Hitchcockian' - I'm going to get all full of myself!
sanni - thanks so much, I still marvel at your strawberry shot so if you say creative that makes me happy
When I first saw this photo I was like WOW! My first thought was like jeni and thought alien goggles, then I got to thinking about the Olympic swimmers and the eye goggles that they wear. It kind of looks like that. I love it and I also like the warm color you used especially after reading how hot it is in the building. Why are some doctors offices like that. You know they take blood pressures. It think this is a way they try to get the blood moving so the read is higher.
Good Luck. Thanks for stopping by.
Wow! Now I'm getting claustrophobic as well. Hang on to that handrail :o)
Is your doctor Stephen King? Cuz that's super creepy!!
pkay - I love the idea of this being the view behind Olympic swim goggles LOL
Poor Michael Phelps - he must have such a headache
Ivanhoe - yep, claustrophobia is one of the many charms of this staircase :)
leighann - your first comment since your hiatus!! Waiting for you to come back was harder than waiting for a new season of Grey's!! I love creepy and if King was my doc I'd probably be considered normal
Dianne, if you didn't use a fish eye lenses for this shot, you should consider seriously changing your doctor!
Just had to say I love Kimmie's gift to you. Too cool.
Whoa, that kinda gave me a dizzy head-rush...or was that a hot flash...hmmm. Cool pic!
Brillient - i can so feel it!
I'm dizzy just looking at it. Well done!
digital - it was a fish eye! LOL
raven - isn't it great!! Kimmie e-mailed it to me and I loved it! Perfect for 'forks off the moment'
shelly - with me it's always both ;)
casdock - thanks!! and good to see ya.
knight - thanks lol
I love how everyone has a viseral reaction to it
Hahahahaha!
Well geez.....your description was so good I'm thinking I need a barf bag in front of me now. Blehhhh!!
Great pic though!
And that gift from Kimmie...adorable!!!
That's an amazingly creative photo. I'm in awe!
Your best photo yet. Super!
tt - I love my 'Fork Goddess', glad you do too.
cg - Wow! I'm blushing.
fermicat - thanks!!
Nice shot. You've even captured the sick yellow feel of a doctors office. I think my hands have even started to clam up. ;)
That's cool and creative shot! Thanks for the comment on my CP!
tink - ahhhh clammy hand syndrome, I know it well! sorry I did that to you :)
sweeta - thank you!
Diannye, that is AWESOME! I felt exactly as you described just looking at the photo. What a great shot.
