Joey's Mom

I became aware of Jean Biden when her son Joe spoke about her at the Democratic National Convention. She looked like such a sturdy woman and Joe's tribute to her was so genuinely touching that I did a little research about her.

I liked what I learned.

Jean Biden died Friday at the age of 92. She had four children, ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Her husband died in 2002, they had been married for 61 years.

Her children are teachers and lawyers and Joey became a Senator and a Vice-President. When Joe Biden first decided to run for the Senate Jean told him she hoped it "didn't ruin" his reputation.

Joe Biden recalls many wonderful moments of his mother's life in his book 'Promises To Keep'.

My favorite anecdote is how Mrs. Biden told a nun she would "rip off your bonnet" if the nun ever again mocked Joe because of his stutter. As a victim of the vicious nuns who should never be teachers that populate the Catholic school system I really appreciated that. Imagine how daring and brave that was some 50 years ago.

Peaceful journey Mrs. Biden.

Lovely tribute to a very admirable woman! And oh how true about nuns as teachers! I taught in several catholic schools and while there were wonderful nuns, there were also a large collection of nuns who really needed to get another life and stop harassing children as a pastime! Have a great weekend, Dianne!

My family fell in love with Jean Biden during the campaign because she brought back so many wonderful memories of my husband's sister. Her mannerisms and facial expresses were identical to Margie's. Her children and all my family felt like we were watching a reincarnation of our Margie.

I love your pictures of the Obamas. I keep the White House Flicker page bookmarked. Sometimes I enjoy going there to watch slide shows. I just enjoy looking at them. Those little girls are so precious.

I keep up with Michelle through the White House Foodarama blog, and get Time's daily photo of Obama.

The Bidens are among the more likeable American political families. This fine lady being no exception.

I read the book and enjoyed it very much. I believe in Joe because of how he was brought up.
And like me, he has a hard time keeping his mouth shut.

Thanks, Dianne, for the lovely tribute to a special woman.
I have my TV on. The Jets are holding their lead as the third quarter winds down. Go Jets!

Sounds to me like she was quite the firecracker and like someone I would have definitely liked. Rest in peace, Joey's Mom.

I love that story about "ripping off the nun's bonnet" dianne. Nuns in Catholic schools in those years were absolutely nuts - I experienced them first-hand... They were particularly mean to the boys - Jeesuz!

sylvia - thanks :)
she really was someone to admire

linda - I follow the White House sites too :)
Margie sounds like she was an incredible woman

jackie - there are some photos of her on Google with the grandkids, they were taken last year - she's wearing capris and a tee and looks so young and happy

pagan - they are by far more down to earth than most

micky - LOL about the mouth, Joe does sometimes forget himself

linda r - thank you
and thanks for rooting for my Jets - we're very happy here right now

linda - so many lindas!! :)
she reminds me a bit of my Nana
Nana was tiny and tough too

mary - I love that story :)
and she took all the kids with her so they would know what she said and that it was OK to tell her if the nuns did it again

Hi Dianne!

Wonderful tribute!

I've not heard of this cute little piston, but anyone who told a nun she'd "rip her bonnet off" ROCKS!

I too was a victim of the vicious nuns, so you GO, Mrs. Biden!!

Thanks for sharing, dear lady.

Enjoyed!

X ya!

Wow, to stand up to a nun….50 years ago even, that really does take balls. There is nothing better than the story of a strong women. I’ll check out that book.

I would have liked my mom to have ripped a few bonnets off...feisty is always a good trait no matter the age.
