The Force of Nature

It was a windy day this past Saturday with gusts of 60 mph. The clouds were traveling fast.

I took these photos within a time span of less than 10 minutes, starting from the north and turning toward the south.

And then back again to the north, it was as if it were 2 days happening at once.

The power and sound of the steady wind was extraordinary and the gusts were both amazing and frightening. My shopping cart escaped my grasp and the car door became a weapon as it slammed into me.

I've been thinking of that feeling as I see the destruction caused by the tornadoes in the Mid-West. Those winds were 3 times as powerful as the gusts I experienced.

Huffington Post has an article on how we can help

Stormy, but beautiful skies and clouds. I, too, have been horrified by the winds and destruction in the Midwest! Seeing the misery there makes be feel like such a wuss for complaining about our endless rain -- I may get wet, but I don't get blown away -- literally! Thanks for the Huff link, Dianne! Hugs to Hope!

I like the sky. As long as it stays where it's supposed to!

The force of nature is indeed an awe-inspiring thing and lately it seems to be telling us that it's pissed and it's not going to take it anymore as it shows us exactly how much there's not a darned thing we can do about it.

Great shots Dianne! We've had a beautiful blue sky here all day and it's been quite spring-like, so much so I've just spent over two hours in the garden tidying up and I'm knackered now!

Love the first two stormy shots, and the little bird-on-the-wire in the third. Don't blow away, Dorothy, unless you have sparkle shoes.

Ooh, first time here via Kay's Thinking Cap and enjoyed the range of photos and ideas. Good idea to link with how to help people in midwest...wish there was some similar way to support Kay.

It was windy like that here last week. As I listened to the rafters creak, I wondered whether the roof would blow off. Luckily, it did not. Hurricane force winds are bad enough, but tornadoes are a whole other ball game. It's a scary thing.

It was wild here in Ohio, too. Not sure what's going on with mother nature. These past 12 months have been very weird...

Crazy weather and days. I'm ready for some sunshine!

WOW, Dianne!

Hasn't the weather been unbelievably bazaar? One minute the sun is shining, the next it looks like the end of the world.

FLAWLESS photos! That first one is freakin' AMAZING! I love a sky like that!

And the clouds in photos 8-11 almost look as though they're painted!

Well done, dear lady!

X ya!

Lovely sky images of clouds that are, for me, comforting. Thank you for the reminder that clouds do not always mean comfort, and for the Huffington link.

Ya know, the same sort of weather pattern has been occurring over here in Southern California. The weatherman says that the weekend should get up to 80. Looking forward to that after a week of grey skies!

Thanks for the reminder...the tornadoes destruction is immense.

Storm clouds have a beauty and power about them. I used to often see the weird effect of two different skies when I lived near the sea. I could look out the back and see storm clouds and then out the front would be blue sky and sunshine.

looks as cold as it felt

Wow! Those are dramatic skies. I love to see what mother nature can produce, even if sometimes it is destructive.
Happy weekend!

Yikes! We had some wind while we were outside today, not even as bad as yours in this post I'm sure, but it also made me think about the devastation. I'll go look at the Huffington article.

Great shots. Sixty mph is getting up there. Did that car door hit you bending over? That would not be pretty!
