This is the first ever pic I took with my first ever smart phone.
Not bad. I was waiting for takeout at the Chinese restaurant when I took this shot.
I was trying to check my voice mail when I took this shot.
Imagine how good it would have come out if I was trying to take a photo.
I got the phone in December as a gift to myself. During Hurricane Sandy it became very clear that the first ever digital phone that I got at Radio Shack a million years ago was sick and tired.
How wonderful it would be to have a phone that was smart.
Nobody likes a wise-ass.
Maybe it's my fat fingers. Maybe it's my fat head.
I can't seem to hit the right buttons. I can't see all the tiny thingies. I don't know what all the icons mean.
Forget about the tree falling in the forest when no one is there.
Can you undo the thing you didn't know you were doing?

Oh, dear. Did you ever figure out how to check your voice mail? I think it's kind of pretty. You could call it "found art." :-)
LOVE the photo, Dianne!
It truly amazes me the quality of photo you can get from a smart phone. I've seen some online that look as though they were taken with a Canon or Nikon.
Ironic you posted this today because my brother, Tom, just got a smart phone this week and LOVES it. However, he did say that he hasn't even begun to figure out how it all works.
X to you and the gang!
It usually takes me about five minutes of hunting and eventually I find out how to delete it. Mostly I just forgettaboudwit. Good Luck.
Oh the thing I hate the most is that my phone forwards all to Google+ which I refuse to use.
I do so understand! I refused to yield to the advertisements and got the simplest phone available, can't do anything fancy, but I can make calls when I need to!!! Thanks for the laugh to start my day!
Go for a stylus. Money well spent. No more fighting those tiny keys.
I am so behind the curve...I don't even know why a "Smart Phone" is called a Smart Phone....! This post gave me a good laugh, my dear.
There was a time when I was right up there with ALL the technology...No More, No More. My Not-Very-Smart-Phone sits in a drawer---reception up here on my hill is very spotty....So, since I am rarely out in the world....not so smart Land Lines are my phones of choice.
I am stunned by how good the photographs are from some of the newer phones AMAZING!!!!
I'm with you, my friend. My phone keeps taking pictures when I'm trying to make a phone call. I don't have any idea how it does it, or why.
It's smarter than I am, that's for sure.
I do have a cellular phone, and I take it with me when I go to the west coast to see my family. Or when I'm walking alone or walking the dog. I'm pretty sure Lindy would go for help if I were to fall down (she has done that, in the house, when I fell) but I have the phone just in case.
I certainly don't have it for photos.
Sigh.

If at first you don't succeed, try something else.
I like it. I recently learnt to take pics with my kindle. It is weird and requires a different perspective, really.
So smart.. it creates your own blog fodder.
I guess that's one reason why I still have a "dumb" phone. I can call or text. That's it. But I know how to do that much.
Have to admit. It is an awesome picture though. I got a smart phone for my job a year ago last September... if I knew then what I know now. It was weird for a long time. I would say get rid of all the stuff they load on your "desktop" that you don't use. Only keep stuff you can identify. That should help considerably.
"Good luck on your mission ... if you choose to accept it. This tape will self-destruct in 5 seconds."
I still have my flip phone though my husband has a smart phone. I do have an iPad but I don't whip it out and stare at it at every possible free second. It's not 3G for one thing, only wifi. but that's OK. It keeps me present and engaged with whoever I'm with unless they have their device. go to any restaurant and look around. no one is talking, no one is even looking at anyone. everyone has their head down with their phone/iPod.
Hey, at least your first pic was of something vaguely interesting. I think my first pic was of my keyboard at work. Ooohhh, I'm such an avant-garde artist! ;-)
I've had my Android phone for over 12 months and there are still things on it I have never used!
When I learned on my first workplace desk top computer in 1969 I was told to go for it because I couldn't do anything that couldn't be undone. I still do that and hope the adage still rings true. (Confession...I don't have a smart phone and fear one.)
Oh Gosh, I'm laughing with you, not at you. Tried to send a silly text to my dil in Oregon last weekend and instead I dialed her cell phone twice. I thought it said the text was sent, next thing I knew Mark called me: "Mom are you OK?" Yes, sure, why? "Kathryn said you called twice while she was in the shower and couldn't answer, she thought something must have happened because you didn't wait for voice mail to pick up." Oh well, at least it made him call me ;>)!! I need some lessons. Or an up-to-date brain!!
I don't have a smart phone, but it's not totally dumb either. Also, it's pre-paid. So, I took a pic and emailed it to someone and the phone told me that cost me 10 minutes. No more pics have been taken since. ha!
Jay
I really like this picture.
& re the last part of your post - thanks for providing me with a new zen koan to meditate on, Lol!
I have a dumb phone and a camera in it that is not very good and I will not buy a small disc for a dumb camera. I guess I am lucky. I think you are going to make magic with that phone once you get use to it. For those spur of the moment photos when the good camera would be too much...say in a Chinese Restaurant. I am glad you shared the photo. :) Gin
LOL, this reminded me of working through my new Kindle's set-up and typing on the little onscreen keyboard. Thanks for the chuckles!
Happy St. Pat's Day!
happens to me all the time
We, too, just got smart phones in December. It's a learning process. But even with my other phone I had issues. I used to bring my phone into the bathroom with me in case someone called (don't ask). I can't tell you how many times I took a picture of myself sitting on the pot. By accident, of course! ;)
I was comfortable with technology until devices got smaller and smaller and their options grew ever more wide. Too much stuff at my fingertips makes me panic. I still have my mobile withe a keyboard that makes texting with my kids easier. That's enough for me until someone makes me get a smart phone.
I consider myself technologically savvy, but the changes are just too much. As soon as you master one phone it's obsolete and new, more complicated ones have taken over.
Or maybe I'm just too damn old!
